I must admit I do kind of hate you, however you have been quite helpful on this thread so thank you. Could you elaborate on the multi-touch? You got windows or linux on your's?
Not sure why you hate me ... but ...

The multi-touch is similar (so I am told) to Apple's Macbook touchpad. But last I heard, this Elantech company came up with it first, or at least vastly improved on Apple's design.

Here's what it can do with the latest drivers (I have a Windows 900):
- Two-finger scrolling: put two fingers to the pad and move them left or right or up and down to move the scroll bar.
- Three-finger click: This activates the right click function.
- Two-finger click: Gives you the mouse-wheel click. Normally only available when you have a mouse, but you can use it with it right in your lap, no mouse.
- Zoom: Using two fingers, you can zoom photos in and out by spreading or closing the distance between the two fingers.
- Magnifying glass: Put two fingers on the pad, then leaving the first finger in contact, click your second finger in a double-tap and you get a magnifying glass. You can change the size and magnification in the touchpad settings.
- Three-finger browsing: Swipe three fingers left or right to get the back or forward buttons in your browser.
- Open My Computer: Move three fingers up to open My Computer
- Switch programs: Move three fingers slightly down and then left or right to switch between windows (like ALT+Tab).

I've heard some of the really low 900 models do not have everything enabled in Linux, but with Windows it all works (IIRC).

You can also turn on/off whatever functions you want or do not want. I've turned off only the zoom function. There may even be more, but my EEE isn't turned on, so I can't check right now.

Why? Because they can't play BF2? You'd be surprised at some of the games that folks have gotten to run on even the 701 models all the way up to the 1000 models.

Thats just retarded to say. Everything mini fails? Minicooper fails to right? No, it doesn't. Everything mini has its own advantages and disadvantages, some people are just to thick to see the advantages and always moan about something they aren't used to.

something for everyone.

You all know I love gaming performance more than anything but hey, that's why I have a desktop pc. I don't need a gaming lappy that can hardly match a desktop pc when it comes to performance.
What I need is very portable lappy with good battery life and enough performance for movie, web browsing, music, office work and old games.
Netbook gives me all that and was very affordable.

well what you have to keep in mind is that it's not really a laptop... it's slow and it's small.. it's meant for people that a. dont want to lug around a 5-10 pound laptop b. cant afford a laptop ... to think you can use it/type on it/... is really your misunderstanding... it has its uses but really it costs like $300. how good did you think it was?

Adversary, I am typing on my EEE 900 right now. I can type almost just as fast on this keyboard as I can on a full size keyboard. What's that about not being able to type?

I have a larger laptop at my apartment that I play all my games and do real work on. But I don't need to carry that if I just want to use it as a mobile dictionary for my German class or a way to check the net and emails whenever and wherever I am.

I couldn't afford a laptop? Hahahaha, that's the dumbest thing that I have ever heard. They're not that slow, either, especially the new Atoms that are pulling 5 hour battery life with those (or longer in some cases). All in a package that weighs next to nothing. Honestly, don't knock it before you've tried it.

Zing!
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

lol at the both of you. The only advantage in the mini laptop is actually, that they are mini, yet I tried one of those when shopping for a lappy to use for school, the keyboard fucking sucks, I will probably type faster using the touchscreen on my iPod . The mousepad fucking fails and you need a magnifying glass to read what you are typing (Well not really but needed a 3rd statement, the screen is too little though). Anyway they fail

@ CapnNismo I really have no clue where that argument came from..  I bought a decent desktop PC, so really I couldnt give a rats ass if it can or cant play videogames.

Ok so what you said was:
1. you fingers are too thick for typing on a smaller keyboard
2. your fingers are too sweaty to use its touchpad, thats why you dislike it
3. you need glasses-the screen is big enough for me
4. " The only advantage in the mini laptop is actually that they are mini"---thats not really an advantage; small size and low weight make it very portable-i dont like to carry bricks in my bag.

So, if there was a 17" laptop that weighs 800 grams, you'd get that over a mininote?

If there was a 17" laptop with super performance for less than 1kg, I would probably buy it. But unfortunately, there isn't. So there is the EEE PC.

1.) I am underweight, can't really see how my fingers can be thick
2.) My fingers actually get kinda sweaty with some of those pads, thats why I dislike them.
3.) I do not need glasses, the screen is too small for me.
4.) Being small size and low weight isnt an advantage?

Just for the record, we could probably keep discussing this for another 4 years and still you'd say they dont fail and I would keep saying they do fail..
