Since Nehalem's gaming performance officially sucks... I no longer want to wait... Most likely I get a Q9550 that will last me a few years considering I will overclock it a lot and gaming is more about gfx than CPU.

So... I' thinking about getting a cheap gfx card that will get me to HD 5870 X2 launch. I just CAN'T live with my X800XT PE... way too slow after the tri-fire...

The hard question is... which one?

In the 50-100€ range there are freaking huge number of gfx cards....

HD 2900pro 512MB 512bit was ok...but loud... might pay 50€ max?
HD 2900XT 512MB same as ^
HD 3850 256MB 70-80€?
HD 3850 512MB availability none?
HD 3870 512MB 80€? I got two of these but not as tempting as the 8800GTX...

And NVIDIA:

8800GTS 320MB 50-60€?
8800GTS 640MB ???
8800GTX 768MB 100€? I got two of these and kinda liked them. tempting...
8800GT 256MB 80€?
8800GT 512MB 100€?

+ AFTERMARKET COOLER/OC models from many manufacturers

heh... what a dilemma...

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Where the hell are you going to find 8800GTX'es? They are antiques now, no store here sells them anymore, which is a shame, because it's an AWSM card.

meh I don't care how hot it runs... I had a HD 2900pro that I overclocked... its load temps were 97c... and no problems at all.

Buy back your 3870 I should get rid of it and get another 8800GT, due to foldingness. It's got a much better cooler now.

Thanks for the offer but I think I will get something new... like the Asus HD 4850...

But in reality I probably end up with a HD 4870 X2...
