Both are great. I have an F1 in my main machine. I have used both extensively and never seen a broken one (and I do see a fair few broken hard drives - more Maxtor and Seagates than anything else these days). Both drives perform very well and you'll be pleased with either purchase.

I'd go for the F1, but that's just personal preference.

Well, I don't have any personal experience, but it's supposed to be fast and quiet (and cheap). Here is a review for you.
I has 4x1tb so will let you know how they are....

Nah, I only really need 500gb. I'm just using it to install Linux and as my main media drive.

I have about 100gb of media but it doesn't grow quickly - no big files like films so 1TB is probably unnecessary.
I don't think the Caviar Black Series comes in 500GB, only 750GB and 1TB.  The regular series (blue?) does though.

I'd recommend WD, I use a 160GB IDE one and it works great.
Those must've just come out recently cuz I was lookin at WD's site a couple months ago and there wasn't a 640GB or 500GB one for the Black series, but it was much needed.
