I have this card and was wondering if SLI would be worth it? As you can see from the link I can get another one recertified for only a hundred bucks. Should I go for it? Also, will this power supply be enough to handle both?
yeah if you have a monitor the size of the moon.
Blackbelts are just whitebelts who have never quit.
Yes and Yes.
Having two cards is not only about vram...m3thod wrote:

8800GTS SLI gives better performance than a HD4870. It's up to you to decide if you need that or not. But since you seem to like Crysis, nothing is too much for that baby
You will probably need to OC your Q6600 to take full advantage of 8800GTS SLI though
That PSU will definitely be fine.
And you should join the BF2s Folding@Home team 8800GTS sli would be kickass for it!

I heard the Q6600 can be oc'd to 3.0 on air cooling, anyone know if that is true? I never really trust overclocking.... will it really bottleneck the cards as is?DeathUnlimited wrote:

What's this Folding business?
3.6 on air cooling tbhOmniDeath wrote:

I don't recommend it unless you have a TRUE120 though.
Unless you use high resolutions, you'll get minimal performance gain. Maybe 20%. If 20% is worth 100% to you, then go for it.

You might aswell for $100.

Since yours is older batch you should be able to take it to 3.4+GHz with that CNPS9700 of yours on ease.OmniDeath wrote:

As for the bottlenecking, it totally depends on the resolution and the application. The bigger your resolution, the less the CPU is needed. To put it simple, SLI would/will give you a performance increase, and OC'ing would/will give you some more performance increase. It will work just fine with the CPU at stock, but with overclocking being as easy as it is for core2, it's a very notable option to OC.
And Folding stuff is, as max put it:

Folding at home (or simply fah) is a distributed computing project that studies protein folding when your PC is idle. The data that is produced from this project helps us understand how proteins work, why they sometimes they fail at folding properly and it will hopefully help us find cures for horrible diseases. The diseases that could be cured or at least better understood by this include Alzheimer's, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, Huntington's, Parkinson's disease, and many Cancers and cancer-related syndromes.

Well, I'm currently at 1680x1050 and it's even higher when I have my PC hooked up to my HDTV.
Noob question... how do I overclock?

Do you have an SLI enabled mobo?
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.
that PSU will handle it no problem. i had never heard of that brand before though. and for $100, 88GTSes in SLI would be worth it imo.

Yes he has.max wrote:

There are plenty of people willing to help via xfire too, including meebug9 wrote:

Thanks for the help as usual guys! Ordering this and an MX Air (never found a keyboard I liked). Pics and a "Help me I screwed something up" thread when they get here!
Don't forget, posting pics after you apply cooling paste to the wrong side of components and then providing pics is good too.
It seems that one is currently out of stock and may not come in stock again since it was a recertified version. Can different cards be used to SLI or do they need to be exactly the same? How would this one fair?

No. You need to have at least the same core. For you, the G92-128, in other words, the 8800GTS 256/512.OmniDeath wrote:

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP
Hm, the only other ones I can find on newegg that will work are around two hundred dollars and are brands I'm unfamiliar with. So much for that....Freezer7Pro wrote:

I don't understand Omni. You linked us with your card and in that link it says the card costs 109$. So why don't you get the same one?OmniDeath wrote:
