ok, so here is my current set-up:

I have a modem-router combo thing in the first floor. It is connected to a PC. It is also connected via powerline-networking to a wireless router (D-Link DIR-655) in the second floor. One PC is connected to the router via ethernet, while two others are connected wirelessly.

I also have an XBox360 in the basement, and it wants internets as well. In order to connect it, I have to take the Powerline device between the modem and the xbox, taking my wireless router off the net.

I just found an old wireless router. Specifically a Siemens Gigaset SE551.

Now, my idea was to do this:

Siemens and 1 PC connect to modem via ethernet. DIR-655 connects to Siemens wirelessly as an access point. 1 PC hooks up to DIR-655 via ethernet, 2 wirelessly. XBox 360 is connected to siemens via powerline.

Is this possible? If so, how? Any better ideas?

Fun Facts:
- Powerline cannot run from 2nd floor to basement
- I want to keep the router on the second floor
- The PC connected via ethernet to DIR-655 is turned on 24/7

Why not just run super long ethernet cables to all the machines? The limit for an ethernet cable is 100m. That's roughly the length (more, actually) of an American football field. I imagine you can run the ethernet from the D-Link 655 all the way to the Xbox and still be within 100m. Just pop holes straight through the wall, send it down the wall as far as you can and then route it the rest of the way along the ceiling or the floor.

I'd seriously fuck up some shit if I tried routing cables through my walls, ceiling and floor

I'll call some random guy and ask how much he'll charge for it tomorrow.
