3.6GHz Cedar Mill not working in OptiPlex GX280

I have the required BIOS update to allow 65nm processors to work in it but when the Cedar Mill is in and I press the power button, the power turns orange instead of green and the screen doesn't do anything.

You paid $90 for that?!

Anyhow, pop in the old CPU and re-do the BIOS update.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Already did, it didn't work. Maybe I need to install the specific BIOS version that enables it(A06 I think) and then update it to the latest BIOS(A08)?

Every other place that has it sells it for over 200$ so that considered, this is a very good deal

That wouldn't work in an i915. Too different voltages and i915s can't accept Dual Cores

I know it's off topic, but why a P4?

Core 2s wouldn't work in an i915. Too different voltages and i915s can't accept Dual Cores or 45nm procs

That CPU is something you pay $20 for... Shipped. Building on top of an i915 is pretty much pointless.

If youb can't get it working, there's a big risk that your mobo simply won't take 65nms. 90% of i915s can't take them.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

As I said in that thread, if that's the case, then the best that anyone can put in a GX280 with an i915 chipset is a 570J, which is pretty damn disappointing.

I need a job before I can do that

I spent everything I had on that processor and now I have to pay to send it back.

This sucks.

I guess I can ask for a PSU and a case for Christmas in addition to the 300GB SATA drive I wanted and then save up for a mobo and CPU, most likely that will be some sort of outdated Nehelem at the time.

Nehalem's first couple of CPUs aren't designed for gaming and such. Nobody will criticise you for anything but buying that P4.
