Two possible answers:

1) Photoshop
2) There is a mod out there that creates blood spatters.  it also allows throwing knives and causes weapon damage to be "realistic."

I think its just effects, my settings are on high and blasting guys a foot away with a shotgun doesnt show any, so why would it.

most likely a mod or a patch that adds blood - i've seen one but didn't use it in case it made PB crap itself

would be good if there was....loadsa dead bodies piled up with pools of blood splashing on the floor...what would be cool was if the sea turned red with blood if there was abig massacre there<<<---EA i want credit if that happens

Com'on guys...
It was a photoshop / picture edit / contest... This is without any doubt a photoshop job

But ryan_14, with the settings high, there is still no blood. I guess EA / DICE wanted be able to sell the game without age limits.
A few guys made a mod somewhere, like it was stated above, where they edited the dust you see when a bullet hits a player; resulting in a 'blood' effect.

But this is not in the 'vanilla' game, so it is not playable on ranked servers...

If you want blood in a game, play the Unreal Tournament games. Honestly the first time I played that I felt a lot of my childhood slip through my fingers.

I'd recommend F.E.A.R., nothing like stapling the person next sitting next to you to wall by their head as they execute a daring leap to get a pickup....   and legs and arms can get sliced off leaving sliced arteries pissing blood everywhere.... and the first time a successfully shotgunned an AI at the exact distance and angle required to sever them in two at the abdomen was a revelation to how far this gore will be taken (can't wait until you see entrails dripping down walls though, and haven't reproduced that in a LAN game yet)....   any game where you can run around with a giant nail stuck in your neck and still flykick the guy who put it there and survive gets my vote!

Theres no blood in bf2, not that I am aware of. That picture was photoshopped by the OP of that thread. The only improvement I'd like to see in battlefield 2 as far as gore goes is persistent bodies, as in your corpse lays around for a while after you're dead. I think it would be a nice touch to run into the contested flag and see a few dozen corpses laying around.

Dawn of war (the warhammer 40k RTS game) has persistent bodies, and its great. With the graphics settings on high, the corpses stay for basically the entire game. Though even my geforce 7800 gtx got a bit taxed when there were 2-3000 corpses in one frame.
