I'm looking at laptops and im not sure where to start.

I don't want a dinky piece of shit EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE pc, I want something normal sized. It doesn't need to be a gaming god but I don't want it to fail miserably at simple things and basic games. I don't want to pay a huge amount but I guess I will go up kinda high if its worth it.

Suggestions would be very helpful.

Take a look at HP. I have one and I like it. Just don't go over 15" otherwise it has no battery life and it weighs like 10lbs so it turns into a hassle lugging it around.

Any kind of maximum budget?

But yeah, Dell and HP are good brands to look at.

I believe the Dell Studios are the "lower-end" with dedicated graphics now, the Inspiron lineup seems to have only integrated graphics. For a bit more, you can look at the XPS 1530. The HP dv5t (I believe) has gotten quite decent reviews.

They aren't as well-known as other brands, but among people who do use them and people who know about them; they generally get good reviews. Cheap but above average hardware configurations, decent build quality. The biggest complaint I've noticed was subpar battery life, but I don't know if that's been resolved already.

I don't know, like I said I don't need a mean machine, just something to work on, maybe low end games

Yeah I was looking at some and the performance seemed good, but it only had a 6 cell battery and <3 hour batter life...pretty fail, even if battery life isn't a big deal to you.

Try the Studio 15, it's got a 3450, which is pretty much the same as the 3470 in my machine. At 1280x800, it runs most of the games I play fine (TF2, BF2 [though my CD key is apparently invalid], CSS, DoD:S, etc.)

or the HP dv5t. Of the two, the HP can be configured with a much better graphics card and higher resolution screen (I think), but it might come out slightly pricier.

or Asus.

I stared at that reply for a while, i thought it had a "heart" battery life, very confusing.

Battery life is semi important to me, it does need to be transported, I have a desktop pc already
