I hate to highlight this fact but the US army, although nominally 'peacekeepers' (which would render this an act of terror), had in fact allied themselves with Lebanese Maronite Christians and were actively engaging in battle. As such this was arguably a legitimate military target for Hisb'allah.

Shame they forgot the lessons of Lebanon.

'In a speech in 1984, Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger, who had opposed the Beirut mission, enunciated the lesson he drew from Lebanon: Don't commit insufficient military forces to an ill-defined mission with no clear national interest or exit strategy.'

Sound familiar?

Paraphasing the article: if the U.S. did not pull the U.S. Marines out of Beirut after the bombing, Bin Laden wouldn't be much of pain today...9/11 would of never occur?

Somalia and Vietnam also showed the US didn't have the stomach to fight a determined unconventional enemy.

Osama Bin Laden is a Sunni Muslim who comes from Saudi Arabia and went to live in a cave in Afghanistan. Hisb'allah is a Shia organisation based in Lebanon funded by Iran.

Hamas is massively more independent than Hisb'allah and has accepted help from all manner of benefactors over the years, including Sunni Saddam. I don't think anyone needed a proven example of terrorism in action to demonstrate that it worked. The Libyans had been supplying arms to the IRA for years and seen the effects thereof. To regard this attack as some kind of epiphany for Osama is naive imo.

to not realize that this was the first time a terrorist activity sent the mighty United States home packing is post rational.

Mark my words Cam, Iran will run hamas just as they have guided hezbollah.  Its a all a very complicated strategy on Irans part.  Ive read several books on the subject.

How do Iran communicate effectively with Hamas? How do they arm them? I've been to Israel and I can tell you they have their border locked down tighter than a duck's ass under water.

Study the rise of Hezbollah in lebanon.  Look at the Dawa party or SCIRI in iraq.  Hamas is following the same path.  Its not religion that guides those that make policy, only those that execute it.

My parents left their families and friends in Lebanon in about 85-86 to come to Canada because of the war.

My grand-pa (on my father side so his dad) died few years ago and my dad could not go to Lebanon to see him one last time, so he died and my dad didn't saw him for the past 19 years.

I see my mom crying some time because of that, it is quite the same for her, but she had the chance to go to the funeral of her mother last year.

Nway... all this because of the war, how shitty life can be sometime.

It'd be a lot easier if we just went in and bombed the shit out of everything and everyone.

But we can't all be terrorists.

You should read "Never quit the fight" by Ralph Peters. You would enjoy it. It's not his most recent.. but probably his best book.
