And I am interested in upgrading the GPU to this:

Diamond 4870 1 GB

I know that I will have to upgrade the PSU, and I have been told that a 500 W will suffice.  What I am concerned about is all the reviews that state that this card runs very hot.  I do plan on adding an intake fan (80mm), but I am wondering if this will be enough to keep the system sufficiently cool.

So really I have two questions.  Is a 500 W PSU enough if I upgrade this GPU and fan, and might I have overheating issues anyway?  Any help or suggestions that you guys can offer will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Above link broken.

PSU depends on manufacturer. A Corsair 520W will suffice.

It will probably be cool enough with an 80mm fan in the front, just make sure you get a decently powerful (>40cfm) fan.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

As far as i know, 500w might run it. but to be safer u could probably take it up to at least a 550-600w. i have heard they do run hot... but just do what ur planning, test the temps and then adjust fans/case to lower temps if needed. shouldnt be to bad

I think you would be ok, my brother runs one on a 480 watt Thermal Take and it works fine.
