IRC Issue: Couldn't look up your hostname

Yea, well I just got my new ISP today and would you know IRC won't work now. Its very slow when connecting to networks. I've done some searching and have not found an answer. Since I can't contact my ISP until next I want to see if I can fix it before then. I've got Bright House as my ISP but the modem says Road Runner.(15Mbps down and 2Mbps up.) Just wondering if any of you could help thanks.

Modem/Router is a Netgear... BTW

Seeding torrents? Try turning that off (close uTorrent/whatever you use), and streaming video/audio can be a lag too.

did you try manually putting your IP into the options > connect > local info > [ip address] ?

Does your IP give you a real address?

What ip does your router report (if but first 2 octets)?

My real IP is listed so my ISP is not giving me a host name correct?

yeah, just wanted ot make sure you are not in that group of ISPs that doesn't provide a real IP. I've seen a couple of local providers put thier customers in a private network essentially.

I take it you are connecting to gamesurge? Try another port. In some occasions the regular IRC ports 6666-6669 get blocked. Pick a server with other port from here: http://www.gamesurge.net/servers/

It pretty much stops for a while after that then it connects to a channel. Mean while even though I can connect the nickserv/identserv authorizes me but does not give me correct channel status when I join channels.

Good news I call my ISP the problem was their end. The bad news is they are probably going to have to reinstall the cable line.... AAAAHHHH Fuckers... Apparently I have high latency issues between their servers and modem.
