No thermal paste this time...

I had one previously installed on this computer, actually the same one. I took it out with the hope of returning it because the Mic port didn't ever work. Since I no longer use my mic, I decided to just put it back in as I still had it sitting around. I just did that now, pushed the card all the way in, then turned on the computer. Nothing happened, no "found new hardware" or anything like that. Since I took the card out the last time( 5 or 6 months ago), I have reinstalled Vista, so it should recognize the new hardware. I went into control panel, hardware, and checked that out under the Sound tab, and it didnt recognize the Xfi card as being in the computer.

Any ideas as to what the problem might be and fixes? Im gonna try a restart, but because I doubt that will do anything, I decided to come to bf2s first.

Tried a restart. Didnt work. Tried removing card and then replacing it. Didnt work. Tried another restart. Didnt work. Guess I could go try another PCI port.... Ill be back in 5 with a update on that.

Nah, you put the card in, then install the drivers. I got it working though, think its a bad PCI port.

Yeah thats fucked me up before, spent hours trying to figure out why 2 cards wouldnt SLI, turns out one of the PCI-Ex16 ports were bad

OK - but does your BF2/2142 recognize it as an X-fi card?  On my AlienWare it does not.
