After alot of deliberation I've finally installed Linux - Ubuntu on my pc. It was recommended because I use it quite abit on my uni course - computer science, so I thought I better get used to it!

I've got it on a partition on a new hard drive. I now have triple boot - vista/xp/linux!    (all on one bootscreen too)

Soooooo, what do I do now?

Any essential stuff I need to do/get for it? I kinda know my way around but any hints or tips would be appreciated!

Most stuff you will need is already installed such as audio/video player and browser. Be sure to download OpenOffice too. Dunno what else to say.

Yeah, I've got openoffice on it.

I like how lots of essential apps are already on.

What's the point in doing all the stuff you can do on Windows? The idea of getting a new operating system is to do things that your old operating system couldn't. If you aren't already, get yourself familiar with perl or python, and dig into the operating system itself. It's something you're going to end up doing anyway in Computer Science, so you might as well get a head start.
