Will an 8pin->2x4pin extension cable work on a mobo with only 4pin?

I'm thinking I'm probably gonna need to extend the mainboard power cables on a build I'm gonna be putting together soon - a 24pin extender I can find - but 4pin?? not yet... but, I have found this:

does anyone know (I'm looking at you Freezer) if one of the 4pin connectors will be compatible with the std 4pin 12v connector on the mobo I'll be using?

Seeing how the ATX 8-pin connector is nothing but two 4-pins slammed togheter (one mirrored), I don't see why it wouldn't work.

And stop looking at me like that. It's creepy.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. yes it will work, that's why there are 2 x 4 pins so it can be used in older boards with only a 4 pin not 8 pin.

Is this that download PC you were talking about? With the P182?

If so, I can tell you that I managed to route it behind the mobo tray and to the mobo (p35 DS4) with a Corsair VX450.

Yeah, download PC + P182.

Gonna be using an Antec EarthWatts 380. I've contact Antec to ask about cable lengths - but it took 'em 3 attempts to answer my "will it provide enough amps" question though - and even then all I got was a vague "maybe"... So I might just get some extensions cables anyway - it's not like they're expensive.
