Or perhaps this monitor? It's pretty much the same as the Samsung ... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6824005116

It's from LG.

If you want it to last years, I would recommend getting a quad core cpu. Windows 7 and DX11 bring much better support for quad cores.

Dual is enough now but in the long run the quad will be worth it.
If you're designing for Windows 7, plan for Nehalem.

I never know how much wattage I need for a PSU. Better to have more than necessary, I've always said. I want to get a modular supply, though, but NewEgg doesn't have a single one that I found there ...

I'm gonna be playing with that list later and seeing about maybe just getting new DVD drives for it. But hell, it won't be built in another year so the list will be changed again, anyway.

HX520. I've seen tri-fired 4870s on it.

That PSU is just fucking awesome.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

what the.... I had 380w antec and it sucked so hard it barely gave enough juice for my AMD 3500+, X800XT PE rig.... you wouldd need quite a lot 2x molex -> 6 pin pci-e adapters.... but how the hell could it possibly run on 380w because if I remember correctly, even one 8800gt uses well oveer 100w power. so... I smell bs..

So how'd I do?
If we're fantasizing here - quad core baby! quad core!

Actually, I think multi-core is one thing we're definitely gonna see used better in Windows7+ - multi-core is the next big thing - and all those doubters out there are all gonna start changing their minds when the software catches up with the hardware again (this is one of those cyclical things).

I was wrong, not a 380W earthwatts but a 430W one

linky cause it did happen. nitteo is the guy with the huge GPU farm. He knows what he's talking about

If quad core is supported more with Windows 7, then I may end up getting quad core. Regardless, I may get it.

I know the software is playing catchup, but I've heard that the dual core CPUs are beating the quad cores in normal stuff. Is that true? I would have thought that despite the software playing catch up, the quad core would still be faster. Or is the data just being caught up in the extra CPUs?

Dual core just hit way better OCs.

less heat, less Vcore needed

Yeah, basically, at the moment very little software uses multi-core efficiently. And I guess it comes down to a dual-core is more like a solo-core than a quad. As programmers get to grips with multi-core then it will start to come into its own. Of course it's a bit chicken-and-egg - more people are buying dual atm, so why put the effort into developing multi-core software?

max wrote:

And that's why they sell better atm.

I like EVGA's lifetime guarantee on things, but it's not necessary. Don't worry about where to buy them from, I can get them here in Europe or in the USA if anything ends up being region specific (not that I think that's possible ... but ...).

A good monitor would also be nice. Something widescreen.

GO!
Could you explain how you can build a 'BF3' proof game, when
1.) BF3 hasn't even been confirmed yet.
2.) You don't know the requirements of the (non existent) game?
