Long story short, I deleted the ubuntu partition i had, and now every time i boot my computer, it tries to load GRUB, as it was doing before, but it can't, 'cause it errors like....

Verifying DMI Pool Data ............
Boot From CD :
GRUB Loading stage1.5.

GRUB loading, please wait...
Error 17

Which effectively means I can't boot any further, and I was just wondering if anyone could help me, rather than having to wait till Thursday or maybe later to get my other PC back from a friend to mess around with the hard drives...

There's probably some simple solution but the only one I can think of for now is something to do with the ubuntu live CD, and booting to that rather than the hard drive or something, but I'm not sure what I'd do from there, being Linux illiterate...

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

EDIT: I'm on XP x64 and I've no windows CDs that haven't been scratched to unuseable, and I haven't found an easy way to fix the boot manager from this SLOWWW laptop yet...

I had the exact same problem today lol, I just formatted the partition I had Ubuntu on (GRUB still on the MBR though) and installed Ubuntu on another disk entirely. Put the new Ubuntu disk as boot #1 and now GRUB sees all my operating systems and successfully boots into them.

The only real way of getting the windows loader back is by a repair install. Alternatively, you can boot off a linux live CD and try to repair grub

How can I try and repair grub from the Live CD? I tried while I was booted to it, but couldn't find anything lol

I've not got alot of hard drive space to play around with, so it's not as easy to install ubuntu again, i wouldn't be sure where I could get the space from, I was pretty full up...

Thanks for the help so far though guys

I got Ubuntu reinstalled now on a smaller partition, so GRUB loads properly now, and lets me select my windows as an OS, but it just goes to "Starting Operating system" or something then doesn't do anything else, any ideas at whats up now?
