Obviously most new games these days requires Shader model 3 ...
My current GPU is Sapphire Radeon X800XL 512mb ...
Do i have it ? ... and if i don't, can i have it ?
Been looking at the manufactor site but can't seem to find the info
And it can't be upgraded to 3.0 ?Agent_Dung_Bomb wrote:
It is not shader model 3.0. As I recall it has 2.0B as the shader model.
Damn ... i suspected just thatAgent_Dung_Bomb wrote:
No, it's part of the architecture, and not something that can be upgraded. You will need to replace the card to get shader model 3.0 support.
That price is pretty horrible. In the US 4850 512MB's go for ~$160 and 1GB models ~$200. What store you using?Varegg wrote:
Is this a good replacement ? ... it's on sale at my "local webshop" - about $300
Sapphire Radeon HD 4850 1GB GDDR3

What are the other parts of the computer and how big res is the monitor/monitors? Anyway I think you'll be fine with 512MB 4850 or for that $300, a 512MB 4870.Varegg wrote:

A matter of usage; Plan to go hi-res and mega-AA (1920x1200, 8XAA), the 4850 1GB, med-res and med-AA (1680x1050, 6XAA), the 4870. As long as there's enough RAM, the 4870 will rape the 4850.Varegg wrote:
Yeah .... i notice the 4850 1Gb was $200 on newegg, but customs and freight would make it more exspensive anyway ...
So you would rather buy a 4870 512mb than a 4850 1Gb ?

I plan to upgrade with CPU and mobo sometime next year, have had my current setup for about 3 years ... was built around bf2 August 2005 ...DeathUnlimited wrote:
Only thing is that your rig will probably not take use of all the power of the 4870. But it is a futureproof card if you plan to upgrade some time.
Ahhh yes.Freezer7Pro wrote:
