Long story short i have a 1974 Porsche 911 Targa that i need shipped to my location. I am currently living in Portland, Oregon. The car is in San Bernadino (LA-Area), California. The car is in non drivable condition, but the only problem is the drivetrain, more spefically the engine and transmission, so i need a way to get it from where it is, to where i want it to be.

Do/Have any of you ever shipped cars before, and can you recommend me some respectable companies or give me a price estimation? If you have any other ideas on how to ship my car safley and cheap, then please speak up.

Oh, and inb4google because i want some first hand reassurance.

FedEx custom critical is good for that.  My company has an account with them.  But, that would not be cheap I reckon.

Ok Fedex is a rip off....to ship a sports car from CA to NJ would be $2300. My boss had his 2008 Cadillac XLR-V series transported uncovered from Montana to CA for about $600. I recommend shopping around with smaller trucking companies and tell them it doesn't need to be covered for transport. Possibly offering to pay cash on delivery would knock the price down too.

That would cost more and a good chance the car will be damaged beyond repair.

no, you get what you pay for.  ripoff and white glove service are two different things.

My point is he had a $100,000 car transported uncovered for $600 dollars with no damage. Were talking about a 1974 Porsche that needs a new engine and drivetrain, hardly something that needs "white glove service." The guys who do this aren't morons and damaging a car like that would surely cost him his job. Fedex freight is a rip-off, I do shipping for a living and Fedex has ridiculous freight rates for large items.

So do I.  I agree they are expensive, but the cheapos have a lot of risk to them.

I call shenanigans on $600 to ship a car from NJ to CA.  I don't car if it went through the Panama Canal, that's waaay cheap.

Call a few different freight companies and get some quotes.  If time isn't a worry, go the slowest possible way.  You are just going to have to try a few different ones and find the cheapest, because shipping lanes and charges change depending on the location from and to.

All I was saying is I could maybe get him a back haul rate since I have a good relationship with the custom peeps.  Also, the cheapos have terrible contracts.  if something happens, you be fucked usually.

That makes sense then.

USM, you probably wouldn't get him discounted rates unless you're willing to have him ship it on your company's account, which I doubt would happen.  His best bet is to call and get quotes.  No company is going to give you a discount for a one and done ship.

Car shipping is a big business now with all the morons buying over the internet.  I've heard of this outfit, but have never used them.
