So, I have my computer and stereo right next to each other, and I would like to either play music from the ipod and/ or computer to the stereo. It has a port int he bottom right hand corner of the main station or whatever that says Analog in and then says MD link next to it.

Thats a picture of the stereo if it helps at all.
Any help would be great!
Thanks

Jack size is 3.5, same as Headphones.

well if it has a 3.5 AUX input you just need a cable with 2 x 3.5 stereo male ends to hook it up.  I it has any RCA inputs on the back you need a 3.5 stereo to stereo RCA (one white, one red)

no don't use that.  it probably doesn't have that connection anyway.  use the first thing jaymz said, a male to male 3.5mm connector.

If he has a stereo, .Sup's and my choice is better.

Haffey's choice would be more versatile if he was to use it on more than just his stereo.

Why can't modern stereos come with 20 pairs of RCAs like old days?

I'll never replace my Pioneer SA-330!
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

The RCA to 3.5mm wires work on most stereos

the one in our Weight Training class has the RCA aux ports on the back and I just use my cable and we all hook our ipods into it no problem...

Because the 30 cents it costs to add each plug/AUX button/circuitry multiplied across 500 000 units isn't wortht it, considering that like 75% of users can barely run the CD player itself, let alone the aux.

If nothing else, add just ONE aux port into every stereo.

I can actually do it with my stereo at home using the microphone jack and switching over to a dead AM radio station.

Just an advice-if you're buying a stereo like hagen has, always get one with AUX- integrated CD player tends to fuck up after a period of time.

DO what most people said. Use the analogue connection in the front, buy a good quality 3.5mm jack to 3.5mm jack connector and please make sure you turn off the on board EQ on the ipod.

Yeah, but then there's the question of price:performance and broken buttons:price

The first menu (i dont have an ipod btw so i might be inaccurate), settings, EQ and then set it to flat. Jobs done! This also applies to anyone who connects via the dock for audio out, equalization doesn't just apply to the headphone jack.

Actually, you go to Settings>EQ>Off -- that's what it is on my 5G Video

yeah that's what i meant, thanks lilp.  both wires are stereo capable, but the red/white plug is usually associated with TV and DVD player audio input/output, whereas the 3.5mm plug is associated with practically everything - especially stereos and audio players.

The way I see it, RCA is for big things like TV's or Big amps and speakers, 3.5mm seems to be more for smaller, movable things, headphones, MP3 Players, etc.
