Hey guys. Ok here's the thing. Somehow I ended up with these two PCs...

PC #1:

Intel Core 2 Duo E840 @3.00GHz
NVIDIA GeForce 8500GT 512mb (overclocked...but it still sucks)
Windwos Vista Home premium 32bit
4GB Corsair RAM (gona get Vista 64bit soon)
500GB hard drive

PC #2:

Intel Core something single core at 3.00GHz
NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT 256mb (See where I went wrong? Awesome graphic card in the wrong machine).
Windows XP 32bit
3GB Kingston RAM
104GB Harddrive
P5B motherboard

Here's my plan.

Since my n #1 PC's case is way too small I'm going to switch all my hardware from PC1 to PC2. Exept I'll leave my crap 8500GT in PC1. So in the end I'll have:

PC #3

Intel Core 2 Duo E840 @3.00GHz
P5B motherboard
500GB Harddrive
4GB Corsair RAM (1 waiting for Vista 64bit...)
NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT 256mb
Vista Home premium 32bit (again...64 soon...)

How does PC #3 sound? What should I change? I can only add 270$ more materiel in it. How can I make this a good COD5 highest graphic settings on 800x600 resolution PC?  I don't really want to spend more money so how will PC #3 perform with what I have in it?

My main interest is to play COD5 on medium-high settings with an FPS that doesn't drop below 80.  How do I do it ?

Thanks alot in advance!

800x600!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!

Are you nuts?

That could do way better than that and definitely on pretty high settings

PC 3 will play CoD5 all max 1680x1050+ with no lag.

Get a bigger monitor.  Your plan seems fine.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Didn't think I would be able to play above 800x600 ever in my life. I've always wanted a descent PC...guess I got one.

Now my question is, although I've already built these PCs. Where do I get more thermal stuff to put on my CPU? I'm not expert.  Also I'd like something more convienient then aluminum foil to ground myself.

I know there's google n stuff but I trust this site more. I just try to avoid the 'Everything else' forum section

Search your store for Arctic Silver 5. Then google how to apply it, and you're set.

And aluminum foil to ground yourself? What?

Just touch the case before you start tinkering.

60FPS is not very different from 80 anything above 50 is , and only I'm aloud to run CoD5 in 800x600, due to my ATi X1300 128MB. (Even on all low, I still lag in the beta)

Damn, I had the 256mb version of that card, passively cooled. Good times.

Aluminum foil? I found it wth google. They said to make one of those rist things so I wouldn't kill my PC.

Ok I'll look for arctic cool 5. Thanks alot.

My main goal here is to be able to cap my FPS at 100 (/com_maxFPS 100) and that it doesn't drop below that. Some1 on COD5 said that's what his card was doing for him. You guys sure this is a good card? Lol I'm just worried. Remember it's a 256mb not a 512mb.

1) Sounds batshit crazy, take pictures if you do that.

2) VRAM doesn't matter too much, since you have >2GB some of your RAM is/can also used as video RAM.  Its more of the card series that matters.

Only certain cards can use system memory for VRAM, and that solution is very slow and ineffective.

256MB of 8800GT is enough for good gaming at 1680x1050 with no AA.

look here for AS5

the 8800GT 256MB should have no problem with COD WaW. Crank up the resolution a little. Even the 256MB one should have no problems at 1280x1024+

Looks good. So bassically if I read the instructions right, they said to put a layer that just covers it in all corners, a fine layer. I want globs...

I usually just put a little blob in the center and then spread it with a credit card until I have a fine even layer

Unless you are building this stuff in the middle of a carpet filled room, you probably won't kill your mobo with static shock.

I agree with max on this.  I'd go with the 512mb of the 8800 but the 256 will work just fine for your needs.

I love the Zalman brush for applying thermal paste

and the danger of static shocking a component is highly overhyped as long as you use your common sense and not build it on a wool carpet.
