So i have come to term with that in order to play Far Cry 2, Cod:WaW and prolly most upcoming games my rig needs a major overhaul ...

I made the mistake of thinking i only needed a new GPU but seeing as with most new GPUs you need at least a dual core CPU

So it seems i need

Mobo
CPU
GPU
RAM

Will prolly be buying in December or January ... any help pointing in the right direction as to mobo and CPU would be appriciated

Umm, you don't have to have any special things other than the slot to get a certain GPU...
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Until January a lot of things can happen. But for now the rid DU posted is
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

Actually several GPU is adviced used together with a dual core CPU ... GTX280 is one of them, HD4870 is another ...

I just moved my 3 year old crap into a Antec 1200 ... and the PSU is a fairly new 750W corsair ... my biggest concern is actually the GPU, i've heard the HD48** have had some serious driver issues ...

uhh... I have no idea where you have heard that but it is complete bs. HD 4800 series are really good gfx cards and drivers are great (and get even better).
You won't be disappointed with either HD 4850 or if you can afford, the HD 4870. Both have top of the line price/performance atm.

They just recommend that to avoid bottlenecking. There is absolutely nothing stopping you from running a 4870X2 on even a 750MHz Athlon in a Socket A mobo with PCI-E.

That just looks so much better then ... so i can safely use a HD4870 with my present specs then?

  • Athlon 64 4000+
  • Asus A8N-SLI Premium
  • Crucial RAM PC3200 2048MB
  • Corsair PSU 750W
  • Present GPU is Radeon X800XL 512MB

If so i can wait a tad to replace the rest until around mid summer ...

No issues at all, worst taht could happen is that  you won't use the card to it's full potential.

I have a 4000+ and lower specs all around than your system besides the gfx card atm and I could probably put a high end card in it and be fine, so you should probably be 100% fine

besides a possible bottlecap if any with the single core, but that's it
