'A Level' Physics - Uk school stuff

Hey just wondering if anyone has done 'AS' and 'A' level physics in the UK, after an unfortunate confrontation with my teacher, who said she hated me as a person and a student aswell as telling me that I would cause my 3 mates to fail the course, even though i explain everything to them and this just ended up with me telling her to Fuck off and my apparent threatening behaviour when i walked out, because she flynched..

Anyway, I just wanted to know what it is you do during the first and second year in the course. I was really hoping to further my learning in forces, eg, you swing a ball on a string and learn what force is applied etc, but I do stuff like that in my Maths Mechanics lessons.. Im really not interested in the whole electricity side, but am fond of the atomic strtucture side.. I have to make a decision by tomorrow and its not looking good :C

Well ive just stated A level physics and At the moment I have covered things like emf internal resistance general circuit rules and with my other teacher Ive done things such as electron duality de broglie equation quanta that sorta stuff so far not much else though.

Dear God please let my karma one day reach 100, whether it be tomorrow or 1000 years in the future i want it to happen.

Did AS last year. Got A's in modules Electrons and Photons, Forces and Motion, and Wave Properties.

Doing A2 this year modules Forces Fields and Energy, Nuclear and Particle Physics, and Unifying Concepts in Physics.

Yep, basically Maths+Further, Physics, Chem, German and French are the hardest A-Levels.

Lol. In AS I did Maths, further maths, physics, german and history.

Dropped german last year, hated it.

I find maths, further maths and physics quite easy though. History is the hardest.

The best way to find out what next year's course comprises off is to look at the textbook/syllabus. The syllabus will be available on your exam board's website.

Also, physics A-level was awesome (but I did have amazing teachers). And so is physics at uni.

What do you want to do in the future?

Do you plan to go to Uni?

If so do you need this A-Level to do what you'd ideally like to study at Uni?

If so, knuckle-down and just do it - education gets so much more relaxed when you get to uni level and you should really try to end up doing something that you _want_ to do rather than settling for 'second best'.

I decided to drop it, I know i should rise above this twathead teacher but Im not going to waste my time, because i know shell spend all year trying to push me. Plus, I have my maths mechanics at the same school, and shes one of those, big arrogant cunts who always wants her way and will try and get me booted out of the school competely.

Your grades, not your subjects get you in to Uni... although very few degrees state you need at least an AS in a certain subject to take the course at some Universities. Best to check now you don't need a particular subject.

if you're doing a proper degree (science/maths) you 100% NEED specific a-levels or they won't let you in

e.g. I'm applying to do Physics, all the unis ask for Physics and Maths.

(then again, if you're applying to do Equine Studies at Lincoln Uni, all you probably need is a U in general studies)

I found AS really hard, and A2 easy. My highest mark out of the 6 examination papers came on the synoptic paper
A2 was certainly more interesting than AS, although I hated waves and magnetic fields.

Maths and Science aren't the 'only' degrees. What about Classics, History, English Literature, Philosophy, Law, Economics? I'd argue that classic, old-fashioned degree courses are all fairly reputable and worth their weight to any employer.

Subjects and grades count towards getting into any University. Most decent Universities ask for high-grades in reputable subjects- either explicitly in their entry requirements or implicitly in their silent denials of all applicants with shitty 'soft' subjects such as Media or David Beckham Studies or whatever other scat people elect to spend 2 years of their life 'studying'.

Grades are generally a minimum requirement. Quality of the applicant him/herself is a big thing- that 'ole buzzword: potential. It's a bit ambiguous but there you go. The subject that you have achieved in will say a lot about your qualities as a student at University-level... someone with 3 B's in Media, Photography and Sociology should probably downscale their ambitions appropriately (or, better still, apply to a fucking arts college!)

Also, bear in mind that a lot of high-end Universities nowadays are demanding a high-grade at GCSE/A-Level in a modern language- just another method of differentiating and dividing the outstanding students from the capable; do not be fooled into thinking that attaining the minimum grade requirements for an institution will secure you a place. Statistically, the average entry grades of students into most high-end Universities is far higher than the prescribed UCAS minimum tariff, e.g. AAA requirement typically sees an acceptance of students with up to 5-6 A's.
