(BTW, if you're really into buying a console, PS3 is better IMO, only because of free online, trophies DO add up to a 'bigger score', PS3 users have 'levels', which is contrary to popular belief, and it's one of the cheapest Blu-Ray player on the market.
That is not an accumulative score. That's level based, as you said. Achievement points add up to a total score.

i know is my own decision but i wanted what your opinions were based on your own experience.
my PC setup is this:
Case: Antec 900 gaming case
CPU: core quad Q6600 2.4ghz
CPU cooling: Zalman CNPS8700NT
mobo: ASUS P5KC
RAM: 6GB of RAM OCZ, 6400  800mhz
GPU: BFG 8800GTS 320MB manufacture overclocked
Audio card: Creative Sound Blaster X-FI Xtreme Audio
PSU: 500W dynex or something like that

and i dont really like COD:WaW BETA, so i wont be buying it.

and i know i have to pay for XBL but 50 bucks for a year isn't that bad.

On the other hand, if you have to get a console, my suggestion is the PS3. With all the addons you have to go out and buy in order to get your 360 functional, it is more expensive and a lot more hassle than a ps3. Not to mention that it still doesn't have a blu-ray drive, which is great if you ever want to watch movies in HD.
What, exactly? The wireless adapter? He can hook his 360 up to his PC or Laptop and use it as a wireless bridge...other than that, I don't see what else he would need to buy. Plus, even if he did go and buy the adapter, it's well worth the money and he could get it used on eBay for cheap.
A lot of 360 guys will tell you XBL is a lot better than PSN, but there is really very little difference other than the price.
That's something that can only be said from someone who doesn't own a 360 or hasn't had a lot of experience with both PSN and XBL. There is a substantial different between the two. I couldn't even get a connection with Heggs the other day (who lives in NY) on LBP. Took us like 15 tries and even then it was laggy as fuck. You know why you have to pay for XBL, right? With that money, Microsoft PAYS for the devs online capabilities...

For example, in CoD4 on the 360, MS hosts the servers and pays for them. They're stable, reliable and people get a pretty good connection constantly. In CoD4 on the PS3, IW has to pay and use money out of their pocket, and they're less reliable.

Not to mention the interactivity with XBL and the ability to interact with your friends, view their achievements, see what game someone's playing, etc is so much greater on the 360. Plus, with the NXE coming in a little over a week with the Netflix stuff, it'll be even more interactive.

It's 39 bucks for 14 months online. Really not that big of a deal and well worth it for my experiences.

http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Live-Mon … d_sim_vg_1

You get the 12 months, the bonus month, and the 1 month included with the actual console.

I read an article about Far Cry 2 stuttering on xboxs and having to load a lot more than PS3 or PC, and I've seen my friend's xbox lag every time he kills somebody in bioshock. The 360 cannot hold up to current games, so I doubt it will be able to deal with many upcoming games. PS3 is also getting a lot more exclusives lately. You say you're into shooters, well on PS3 Resistance 2 is either out or coming soon and I believe Killzone 2 will be out early next year. The upcoming/recent 360 releases would probably be Halo Wars (an RTS) and Gears 2 (a TPS) so the PS3 is probably more of what you're looking for.
Those are very, very selective problems and you know it. Those problems are not widespread and are the first I've heard of them. I've had NO framerate drops in graphically intensive games like Dead Space, Gears 2, etc.

And why didn't you mention Halo 3? It's just about the most popular shooter on the planet right now and still played by hundreds of thousands of people online.

lxcpikiman, I know I sound like a broken record, but this is coming from someone who has both consoles - get the 360 now and the PS3 at a later date if you really wish. Both have some excellent titles but IMO, the 360 has come out on top for me.
Yeah lxcpikiman, listen to poseidon, unlike miggle who doesn't know shit with the 360 and relies on his friends' consoles out of every other console out there, I once did have a xbox 360 malfunction but it wasn't the red ring of death and it got fixed afterward by ms. I wouldn't mind getting a ps3 for Christmas as it intrigues me a little plus it is compatible with a lot of accesories that are for pc even the xbox video camera
The xbox360 is a nice system imo  and is fairly decent plus it has simple features.

Edit: unlike the "Japanese tech droolers" who just are big ps3 disciples I don't care much for the ps3 features.

I think both consoles have their merits, but I wouldn't ask for advice on here, everyone is going to be bias one way or the other.

I do have a PS3, and I love it. I reckon it will be more future proof than the 360, and hopefully newer games will use more of the power it has to give. (if that makes sense?)

I'm not biased - all things are equally shit, and equally brilliant, all at the same time, imo.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Replace your 8800gts 320 with a 4850 or 4870 and your PC will rape the xbox and PS3

That.

But I dont get it... You have a Q6600 and an 8800 GTS (320 MB, but still) and your computer is struggling with games? Crysis I can understand, because it poops on even the very best computers, but everything else should run quite smoothly.

That being said, if you still want a console, I would go with whichever console more of your friends have. More fun that way

consoles are the way to go since a $5000 computer upgrade is only worth $500 in 2 years

You took the words right out of my mouth.

And Poseidon, you make your point much much better than most of the 360 fanboys i know (all of my friends) . I'm almost convinced that the 360 would have been the wiser choice...ALMOST.

If you have a PS3 and you're happy with it, that's great. However, my intention is not to get someone who bought the PS3 to switch over. My intention is to have the OP continue with his decision to get the 360 and not be persuaded otherwise. But thank you for the compliment (atleast I think it was ).

get the elite... A little more pricy but it comes with like a 120 gig hard drive. All black consul and all black controlers plus a headset. Some elite packages offer a game as well. I say some because when I bought mine it didn't have a game with it
360 also has super cool arcade games

the interface is going to be updated soon: http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/live/NXE/

I suppose... GamerScore as opposed to levels, is their really that big of a difference?

I got more then what I payed for, when I bought a PS3 we didn't even have levels.
