next to none, the only two cases which I know of were somewhere in 1090 being a knight in some war, the other guy went on the third crusade, died.

since then I'm the only one who's goin military, inbetween those periods everyone in my entire family was in engineering / trading :p

world war one
Spanish Civil War (awarded a medal for something need to check on it)
world war 2

my dad did national service
me almost entered the army but had problems with health (lung problems)

My Grandfather on my dads side was on the USS West Virgina on 12/07/41 as part of the Marine detachment. He was on watch in his dress blues when the bombing started and had to swim across the bay. He also took part in the Battle for Okinawa.

Grandfather mom's side was in the Air Force during the 50's

Dad and his brother were in college so got draft deferments for Vietnam

Then their is me, 8yrs Marine Corps.

I will get my family history book from my aunt and that has our family all the way back and I can tell more.

fought with the Basques against Franco (i far as i how as part of the british army, training and tactics i think)

My Grandfather served in Papa New Guinea as a Rifle man, Bren Gunner and Mortar man. He served in the 2-1st infantry battalion in the Norther part of PNG. Some crazy stories he has...

Both my grandfathers served in WWII.
My uncle was a load master on a C130.
My other uncle was a Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army 4th Special Forces group. He served in Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom and many more that i cannot remember and that hes not aloud to talk about.

My Grandpa was in the airforce for almost 40 years.

My other Grandpa fought in WW2 and got torpedoed. The ship sunk but he survived. After being on a life boat for 10 hours he was found.

My Dad went through basic training for several years but gave it up.

Hasn't effected myself in any way, and it hasn't affected my parents, since they both work for the government.

My uncle, however, lost his job because of his employer doing cuts, same with some of my parents' friends.
As far as I can tell, the main danger here is the high rate of unemployment, it used to be none at all, now it's up to like 10%.
The shit really hit the fan when Mr. Brown in all his wisdom used the "war of on terror" laws on us (Not that our politicians are any better, quite the contrary)
Now the only countries that are willing to give us a loan are Norway, Poland and the Faroe Islands.
It's quite likely that people who put their money into this Icesave outside of Iceland will never see their money again.

Iceland got fucked by the corrupt politicians looking out for their own interest and the big banks, and fast growing corporations, who happen to get full support from their bestests buddies in the federal bank, and tbh, all branches of the government. Corruption at the highest level...

Icelanders are always optimistic (sort of), hence our national motto: "Meh, it will all work out somehow eventually"
