Should have just partitioned the 250GB to install Ubuntu. No need for a whole other hard drive.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

This is the 3ed HDD that's died on me. First one died after constant use from 96 to 99, second one died in '06 when I accidentally pushed the PC over, crashing the whole thing to the ground. The third one was the F1 a couple of days ago. I think I know how to handle HDDs. This is like the 50th I've installed, not to mention all the remounts

He just points out that he never had a problem with a Samsung drive and that maybe short circuit or unstable wall socket causes his HDDs to die.

Bert says Samsung HDDs are no1 so I don't know what the problem is with max's drives.

NOT DRIVES, DRIVE. 1 HDD died. Not a anything that would point towards a short circuit. Sounded like the head crashed or a bearing died. HDDs sometimes fail, it just happens. As I've said, it was probably a random fluke. Maybe the mailman dropped the package ...

You'll need to format it to access the actual drive from windows. Since you want to install linux, don't do anything in windows. Just format and install from the linux set-up

Since the BIOS and windows recognize the drive properly, it seems to be configured correctly.

ok, last and final question, i have formatted the new drive, its found on computer. Now i installed ubuntu on it with a 50GB partition. Now he boot priority in bios is set to hard drive but when i turn on my computer it automatically goes straight into Vista.

I want to be able to choose what OS i want to go in as there should be a black screen with the options.

anyone know how to do this????

set boot priority to the 50GB drive. It should load into grub and let you choose what OS you want to boot. You can change the default values from within linux (just google how to).

If that doesn't work you should try to repair grub from a linux live CD - again google is your friend on how to do that
