NOT!

Some Indian girl in the next classroom over got TB, so now the Austrian Medical Ministry (bad translation, I know) has called our school and said IF we want to be tested, we can go and it's free. We just have to bring our course info. Interesting stuff. Looks like I'm getting a blood test next week ...

Yay! Although testing is free, I hope the same can be said about treatment.

Wtf blood test?

Wont they just give you the Man2 test and go from there? Though the Man2 test does pick up several different types of infection similar to TB sooo..... Yeah.....

Spoiler (highlight to read):
Tested positive to the Man2 test at age 14, has had his chest x-rayed for infection several times and is currently on the run from NT Disease Control Unit for beginning a course of medication which would have ensured there was no TB in my blood, then backing out of it. The chances of me actually having TB are very low but not impossible.

Don't call it TB, call it THe Consumption, it's cooler and makes you sound like a 1800's coal miner.

You're on the run from Disease Control, Flecco? WTF?

I have no idea what kind of test I'll get. There is a skin test, blood, x-ray, etc. I'll let you guys know when I go on Wednesday.

I have worked in a TB lab for a few years. You will probably have the mantoux test Flecco was talking about. You will probably also get an Xray to look for unusual spots on your lungs.
If either are positive then you may spit sputum into a jar and awesome lab dudes will check it under a microscope. They will also try to culture the TB bacteria ( in cool blue media jars).
If this is positive it will tell doctors which strain of TB or mycobacteria it is and which drugs would be best to treat it.

The drugs are not fun ( although you should finish your course Flecco) but they will do the trick. Regular sputum checks and Xrays will be done to check your progress while you are taking the drugs. Bear in mind that TB is contagious, but generally doesnt spread like wildfire. Chances of catching it are not that great, but they are there.

I was joking. They will be pissed when I turn up asking for my man2 measurements though.

And yeah Burwhale, I will probs finish it. Though it's been nearly a year since I ditched the course so I probs can't continue it. Just a cunt of a pill to take. One of those ones that must be taken when no food is in the digestive system. Have to plan your whole bloody morning around them. If I do it again I'll make it work though.

As long as the girl wasn't coughing excessively all over the place and spreading germs, I'm pretty sure you won't be positive for TB

No idea about that. All we know is she was in the other class and then all of a sudden gone without a word to anyone. Then the ministry of health came by for a visit. Yay.

No real need to worry man, they have four different drugs that can kill the bacteria.

Burwhale will probs be able to correct me on this but I believe it is a group of microbacteria that can infest almost all major systems within the body and even the skin/bones, but most often it infects and begins to attack the lungs.

Has a wide range of symptoms but long story short, tends to kill people if left untreated. Most commonly, according to the Doc. at disease control I talked to last year, by eating through the tissue in the lungs until it hits a blood vessel, then lets you drown in your own blood.

What a fun disease to have!

Yea, before the medicines to treat it were discovered, it was basically like terminal cancer: a death sentence

Btw those drugs I mentioned, with a latent infection you only have to do one course of antibiotics for 9 months.

If you have an active infection you'll be put on all four.

Gl man I hope you don't have any.

My testing positive to the man2 test has put my eligibility to join the Australian Army to question. Pissed tbh.
