First of all - the correlations to Prison Break are comical. One of the characters is called "Lincoln", a company is known repeatedly as "The Company" and one of the main characters was indeed Fernando Sucre. Somehow the role didn't seem right.

It was an alright movie. Wahlberg put on an excellent performance but the film still didn't make it in my opinion - a shame because if it had of been a bit more realistic, like Max Payne II, I think it would have been a better film. So go see it if you haven't already; but don't have your hopes up too high. The best thing about it was the soundtrack.

I loved the dark (or Noir.. whatever) atmosphere. In most of the thrillers and TV shows everyone is happy and sunny beaches are everywhere, and everyone is Jesus-like (except the killer). I hate that.
Also it did good in copying the psychodelic feeling in parts of the Max Payne game.

Its not the best of movies, but as far as movies based on games goes - it pretty good.

I've heard that if you are a fan of the games and played both you won't like the movie, but if you don't know the Max Payne story, etc the stand alone movie is pretty good.

I'll watch it soon, but my hopes aren't high after the usual game to movie transfers usually suck.

Two Words:

Silent Hill.

(I know, I shouldn't judge one movie based another totally unrelated one, but I saw ad for max payne whilst watching above mentioned pile of utter drudgery t'other week - and mud (any other more smelly brown stuffs) kinda sticks...)

It should have been longer and they should have included more action and more substance. The characters are cold and badly created. You feel no emotion towards them, which is wrong. For the tiny bit of action that actually takes place, it's very well done and the cinematography is great... Other than that it's a movie you are only going to be watching once.

I never knew Max Payne had demon/angel things in it. Or is that like a dream or hallucination sequence?

Lol, I'm going to see it in half an hour.  Judging by the posts in this thread I'm going to be catching a few zeds instead.

Not surprised to be honest, I don't think I've ever seen a decent game-movie adaption.
Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.

If its anything close to the games, it will be pure ness, but reading from the responses, it isnt. So it will be most likely 'just another action movie'

Off topic, who agrees that some company should make a Max Payne 3? Man those were 2 awsm games

Most game movies are made by lesser known and not as good directors, the absolute extreme of which is Uwe Boll. But they also often detract too far from the game stories and try to use effects from the games that don't transfer well to the screen. Also, they never seem to pick the right games to turn into movies.

MOAB has got the right idea.

Too many directors try and copy the game too much and it seems that the writing staff is also usually not up to the task. Then you get actors casted for roles they suck at (I mean, they got the girl that does the voice for Meg from Family Guy and did the prissy bitch from "That 70s Show" to play a Russian gangster boss -- mistake).

They had good actors in the movie, but the scripts written for them sucked and some of those actors were out of their element. I think if it wasn't for Mark Wahlberg the movie would have tanked completely.

I've seen her in a few movies and she was great, in all different roles.

But the prissy bitch from 'That 70's show' is fucking hot, so I don't care.

Mark Wahlberg is a great actor. It's a shame he has to act in such shitty films (see: This, The Happening, etc).

He was fucking in The Departed.

Wahlberg kicked ass in The Departed.

Michelle Rodriguez would have been a better Russian gangster and is hotter than Meg. But Milla Jovovich would have been the best - a bit expensive probably, though.

For Max Payne she'd have been my number one choice.
