Never have I experience a meteorite so spectacular. I was walking along my boulevard, and I witnessed this meteorite streak across the sky from east to west above the constellation Ursa Major (Big Dipper). It was 12:34 a.m central time. Did anybody else see this??

There was a hazy cloud cover and it was STILL the brightest meteorite I have ever witnessed; tail the longest as well with a yellow hue to it. Hold a 18 inch ruler up to the sky at arms length, that's how long the tail appeared, no joke. It was pretty sweet, I stood there for a whole 10 minutes watching the sky for more activity but eventually decided to go inside.

Edit: Corrected the time to a.m.

Three replies all discussing the ruler

For some reason I had a feeling that would be mentioned in some way or another

Ive only heard of 6 inch rulers or 12 inch maybe he means his 18inches of meat. j/k

In geometry, a ruler without any marks on it (a straightedge) may be used only for drawing straight lines between points, not measuring.

A ruler and compass construction refers to constructions using an unmarked ruler and a compass. It is possible to bisect and angle into two equal parts with ruler and compass. It can be proved, and this is soooooooooooo gay and dumm =/ though, that it is impossible to divide an angle into three equal parts using only a compass and straightedge — the problem of angle trisection. However, should a single mark be allowed on the ruler, the problem becomes solvable.

lol at wikipedia

Meteorites are great to see - I have had one similar experience to the one you are talking about. Quite literally at an angle of 90 degrees had you held a dot where it started. Large blue trail and impressively bright, it's a rare site that always makes me think "how can God not exist".

A meteor is not a meteoroid. When a meteoroid enters the atmosphere it is called a meteor. While in space it's just meteoroid.  noob .

I wish I could see a meteorite.   Then again I don't know if it's my 20/50 vision but I can't see stars anyway, so I can't see the constellations or stuff. Only if I look slightly next to it and not directly at it can I see it...

Here's the question everybody asks..... Am I normal xD ?

Sorry to hear that man, have u tried driving far away from all cities to avoid any kind of light pollution? You wanna be up on a hill during a clear night with a new moon. Bring a good pair of binoculars; they can help. You get a wider field of vision with em' over a telescope...In some cases I think.

Or you could just move to Iowa.  I don't think there are any cities big enough to generate light pollution there.

Didn't see it, but I see some great ones every year.  Every year on my birthday is the peak of the Perseids meteor shower.  Friends and I got to the desert and watch it, it's awesome!

This year during the peak was 116/hr
