Do you intend setting up/using the serial comms of the UPS freezer?

Ah ok. Our UPS's in work have the software installed and configured to alert the pc to a power loss and to shutdown. The UPS then holds the supply for a couple of minutes or so before turning off (once the pc has, of course).Freezer7Pro wrote:

I Also be 15 since last Friday, and if given the opportunity, I would very probably do the same thing, problem is is that Freezer, somehow, has access to a fucktonne more computer crap than me(Srsly, where do you get it all?)
But yeah, I'm not about to go Dumpster diving for OLD computers(people only really trash the 5+ year old ones with like P1s), and I don't have any techie inclined friends IRL that can give me their old gear.
Best example: I'm planning on spending ~$50 to BUY a very used 1.4ish Ghz "server" from the local computer recycler.
But yeah, I have an Arduino, and I play with electronics, and I understand computers inside and out, but I just don't know where to score gear, liek where'd you manage to score 2 UPC's(You said 2, didn't you?)

Yet another upgrade has come upon my beautiful system! After a very successful advert in the local newspaper, I have here, from the local newspaper (lol), a 750W Smart-UPS from 2005 (old one from 1998 ). They had somehow managed to explode the batteries in it, how they did it is beyond me. Not that it matters, as the UPS itself is still working like new. And, well, it is new. The logs in it show that it had been plugged in for two months in 2006, and two days before I got it.
Not only is it 2-3 times as powerful as my old one, it is also 10-15% more effective, provides me with a clean sine wave output as opposed to the jagged on my old UPS, can support a hell of a lot more load, and runs on 24V, so I don't have to think of my cables burning up or my batteries equalizing (series vs parallel, if parallel, they'll charge/discharge each other during an hour or two until they're on the same voltage)

The left side. There used to be a black Smart Slot there, but I fucked it in favour of better cooling and more space for wiring.
Extended cooling on the transistors, made up of the heatsink from an old 7300LE. These eight transistors produce less heat than the four on my old one. Talk about difference in efficiency!
The batteries were hooked up with a nice little adapter, which makes for an awesome connector to connect the external batteries. Way more practical to just plug the batteries from the UPS rather than having to disconnect the batteries and fuck around with the cable as soon as I have to move the thing.
And these batteries are hybrids, or so-called boat batteries; They're not just as good as deep-cycles, but they can take a good 30-40% discharge without any damage. Plus, I won't exactly be going down to 10V on a daily basis. The UPS shuts off when they reach about 11V. They were also so cheap that it doesn't really matter.
I also got two other UPSes together with this one (One identical to my 420W and one 650W Back-UPS from 1992, with an awesome power switch, but I gave those to a mate, cause he helps me out with a lot of tech-related things, and also has an interest in stuff like this.
