Im about to buy a 4870 1GB video card and was wondering.

The cheapest on the site im getting it from is Ge Cube... ive never really heard of the brand so i wasnt to keen on it. the next (only a few dollars dearer) was a palit card... this card has dual fan cooling and comes factory overclocked... so im seriously considering that one. Power color was the next (in terms of extra cost), then HIS , then Gainward then Sapphire.... so i was wondering if there is any advantage of spending an extra $50 on a gainward or sapphire card over a palit one.

Sorry for asking so many questions about my new computer but im ordering it tonight or tomorrow so i want to get it 100% right and not pay any unnessessary money

You'll probably notice some of the different manufacturers use different to stock coolers, as well as slightly overclocking and changing the card design to suit.

I don't recognise any of those brands, except for Sapphire. The others are probably cheaper for a reason. Your better to buy from trusted brands and Sapphire imo is the way to go.

Except gainward, ge cube, sapphire and HIS all use the same cooler. where as Palit, power color use different ones.

all the connections, speeds (except palit which is factory overclocked) resolutions seems the same. and since there all the same card with minor changes whats better about them?

anyone else got a different point of view

I am looking at this card also... what i do a lot of times is check out the reviews at newegg... some of the reviews are tards and fans... but i look to see if more than a few people had the same problem or if they really liked it...   good luck... They all look like they will run games with ease...lol

Go for the cheapest one. I really don't see the point in paying more for a brand name. The only thing that might influence it is warranty. All the stock designed cards come from the same manufacturer anyhow.

ok.... i think ill go for the Palit card... read a fair few good reviews and supposidly the 2 fan cooling systems keeps the temps down on the 4870 (which as u know runs pretty hot)

What are you upgrading from?

What is the nVidia equivalent to this card?  You should probably check it out just in case you see it for cheaper...

This is going in a complete new build... at the moment i have a 8600 GT.

As far as i know the 4870 1GB outperforms every Nvidia card except the 280 GTX which is around $300 AUD dearer

Usually. Some few games don't play nice with crossfire though

It's like 2 normal HD4870s stuck on a single board. It needs crossfire to work

Where are you getting it from, and for how much? I got my Sapphire one for $330 at Netplus (Perth).

The ASUS coolers aren't bad.  I was surprised to get my 4850 running at around 29 degrees idle in a generic case with zero airflow.

Take the Palit.  Their aftermarket cooling is pretty good, especially for only a couple dollars more.

In general:
HIS=VisitonTek=Sapphire=Diamond>MSI=GeCube, etc.
