Hey guys, so I am planning to buy a 1/72 model kit of a J-10 as a DIY project for the holidays. It's my first model, so I've got a few noob questions for all you hobbyists out there about painting.(I think there was a "model" thread a while back)

1. Having an airbrush 100% essential, or a brush set ok? (compressors are expensive afaik)
2. Acrylic or Enamel? ( I heard acrylic doesn't need primer)
3. When do you use gloss or flat paint
4. Thinner:paint ratio normally used?
5. With a camouflage paint scheme, do you paint the lighter colour first, and then the darker colour over it?
6. Do you build the whole thing first and then paint or not? - some places are hard to get to once built.

Anyways, thanks in advance dudes.

Flat, airbrush, i like oil base better the acrilic. paint depends on air brush, paint part before and then finsh after build.

Lighter Colors First for the camo paint scheme, always paint parts before assembly.

Go easy on the glue, you only need alittle bit, sometimes I use Super Glue over the Testor's model glue.

I prefer Oil Based Paints aswell.

I would undercoat before assembly. Maybe paint any details that will be hard to reach when assembled.

But then I'd do the majority when assembled - if you paint the parts while still on the sprue, you risk major paint chippage when you remove them. And if you paint them before assembly but not on the sprue, you risk finger prints...
