League tables should all be taken with a pinch of salt... each newspaper compiles their own, and then the academic surveys released by institutions such as the University of Hong Kong are an entirely different matter. They all have an element of subjectivism I suppose, as well as relying on seemingly arbitrary statistics such as 'Student Satisfaction' polls and ratings. The Top20 shuffles around every year based on completely invisible forces... it's not as if any of the above-named Universities are losing their seat or going down the drain anyway . Could discuss 'rankings' all day but really, they're not all that important. After all, how many prospective employers are going to care about the student satisfaction or research-quality rating of a University? Sadly, I think the name-recognition and reputation speaks more than the actual matter of quality.ghettoperson wrote:
Those rankings are weird. Globally, Nottingham is about 40 places about Durham, however on the Times Good Universities Guide, Durham is 8 places above Nottingham.
