Core i7 920
Gigabyte x58 UD5 mobo
mushikin ddr3 1066 ram 6gb 3x2gb
Evga GTX 280
Raptor 300gb
Antec 900
Corsair 750w psu

My friend just put together this system and everything goes on but the gpu fan, and possibly the gpu since nothing comes up on the display. The light on the gpu is red, so im thinking its the psu.

Any other insight on what the problem could be?

Swap out parts for what you know works. If you think the PSU is bad, swap it. If you think the GPU is bad, swap it. Just swap suspected parts for those that you know work.

I can't help but ask: Are the 6-pin and 8-pin GPU power connectors plugged in?

red light = not enough power. Plug in the PCI-e plugs, check the PSU

Obviously they are, its common sense.

But is it really?

That's the same as me saying that making sure teh DMX is plugged in on a lighting board is common sense.

Sure to a lighting designer/operator it is, but to someone who's never touched a lighting board, the DMX cable and where it should go draws a complete blank.

Yeh I know, it's just that in 60% of these "no video" questions that is the cause. Obviously you aren't a noob though.

I know it sounds stupid but is the 4 Pin CPU power plugged in? When my mate was putting together his rig with a 4850 everything was working but the GPU and it turned out his 4 Pin wasn't plugged in.
