Well, I'll expand my point. Look at the gun crime rates in america, and the rates in the rest of the world...

The correlation is obvious- easier availability of guns leads to a far higher rate of gun crime.

The point is if the USA didn't have a "right to bear arms" in its constitution the matter of life and death for many people wouldn't depend on if the person who took that 'right' was responsible.

Don't get your panties in a bunch. I don't plan on killing anyone over a DVD player. Knowing that I could though makes sure that if something more serious were to happen, IE someone coming with a gun or appearance of a gun, harm to one's life etc, that I couldn't be out-lawyer-ed.

Let me put it this way. Someone comes into your house with what you think is a weapon, with harmful intent. You're picking up your gun to protect yourself... but if you have any doubts of pulling the trigger, it could endanger your family, self, or loved ones. If you know that you can shoot regardless, you won't have any second thoughts about shooting the bastard in the shoulder, arm, or wherever you deem appropriate for the situation.

That said, do you think that petty theft rates in Texas are lower than in say, Maryland?
