Woot, kick some ass AMD!

I realize it's not a 100% accurate test, seeings it was made on two completely different systems (save the video card), however, it's a good market that AMD might actually whoop some ass this time around.

The Phenom II 940 can hit over 6GHz, at 1.95v on LN2. CRAZY!

The name Deneb reminds me of Döner.

How much will it cost?

I'm going to guess somewhere between $200-300 USD, based on AMD's past history.

Also, it runs on existing AM2+ boards, so that is good too.

great. although the competitor is ahead of them by more than one step.
3 channel DDR3 and HT.

So I hope the best but fear the worst. It will take more than Phenom II to make me not get Core i7.

AMD is releasing two chips for the AM2+ boards, and then later in the year releasing AM3, which will run DDR3. As far as I know, the two new Phenom II's will run on the AM3, however no AM3 chips will run on AM2/+ platforms, because they'll be DDR3.

I have no confirmed articles that the first two Phenom II's will run on AM3, just a rumor. Would be gay if they didn't, tbh.

Nooo, get a 940. The 940 has unlocked multiplier.

Unlocked multis are fun and all that, but I'm not scared of traditional OCing. I'll wait for the prices. If the 940 is not much more expensive, then it could be a nice buy

Such crazy OC's could be difficult to attain the normal way. That'd be a really high FSB lol.

motherboard choise is very critical with doing HTT OC of AMD CPUs.

I believe it's the SB770 that OC's the best, but I can't remember.

It might not work on cheapo ones, and you'll most probably need a BIOS update, but otherwise it will indeed run on existing boards.

Thats the nice thing about amd. You can get a good board for under 100$. Cheapo would be those mobo worth about 20$.

Eh, back in early '07 my MSI K9A Platinum was like $130. Very good board though.

lol @ i7 names

Good too see what AMD's doing.

Tbh, I wouldn't mind more competition from them. We see what happened with Nvidia when they didn't have competition for a year.

ERM.

Link 2 (?i7?): 3DMark06 score - 24805.

So... ERM!

the deneb is overclocked to 4.0 while the i7 is overclocked to 3.8 with a 400 point difference and will most likely be 200ish cheeper and run on current boards.

Am I seeing the same information as everyone else???

Yes I am, but I noted down the wrong score for the Deneb (have corrected ^^^^).

Still makes the i7 the better CPU in my book.

We can compare prices when the Deneb is actually available.

Thing is, it's not an accurate test because it's on two completely different systems. It's just a rough guess. I didn't say it was better, I said it's "promising".

Also, even if the actual chips are similar in price, you don't need to buy DDR3 and expensive motherboards to use them, as they run on existing boards.
