wow... i could turn in my old 7800 and get a 9800 for only $50!! damn this rocks. so my question is... is a BFG GeForce 9800 GT OC 512MB PCIe worth the $50 upgrade from my 8800GTS 512MB?

How does that make any sense at all? NVidia makes a more expensive card that's not as good as previous generation?DeathUnlimited wrote:

Damn you Nvidia.

The G92 8800GTS is better than the 9800GT, which is similar in performance to the 8800GT. I wouldn't say it rapes it, but it is better.some_random_panda wrote:

edit: I don't really think it's more expensive either

BFG are my favourite company ever.
If only they made ATI cards...

The 8800GTS 512 is identical to the 9800GTX, except for some disabled shaders.
therefore it's better than the 9800GTCrazeD wrote:

Exactly, which is why it's possible to run 8 Series and 9 Series NVIDIA cards in SLi with each other. However, the 9800GT is a respectable card, I have the XFX one, runs fantastic. Most likely compares to the 8800GT 512MB card...CrazeD wrote:

Nvidia gave their partners the go ahead to slightly over clock and unlock some things and put 9800gt stickers on their 8800gt's.TopHat01 wrote:

Actually, the cards are identical except in the fact that the GPU on the GTS is labeled G92-400-A2, while the GTX has G92-450-A2. Specs are equal, the new revision adds Hybrid power and other features. Obviously the PCB is longer and has better power management, enabling higher clocks.CrazeD wrote:

This is about the 65nm version of the GTX, 55nm GTX runs cooler obviously, and is rumored to have higher quality VRAM, allowing high memory clocks.
9800GT is identical to the 8800GT
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.
Beat me to it.max wrote:

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP
Wow I have an old Dell 8250 with a 6800gtoc collecting dust. Very happy now since my 1950pro died. Running a x800xt right now.

Sweet. I wish I can trade in my pair of 7800GTXs for something better.
