Ohms are the resistance that the speaker applies to the current that enter it. Higher Ohms = more load.
Like I said "Most home stereo systems are 8 Ohms based."
If you can get (borough or whatever) home stereo speakers it will be in 99% of cases 8 Ohms.
Most of them have a label behind the enclosure you will be able to confirm.
For the watts, what are the size of the rooms? For a 12 x 20 feet room about 35 to 50 watts per room will be plenty.
The Y cable mentioned by Morpheus is okay to get the source to the amp after that it's a wiring process with speakers or renting.
If you're not sure of what to do it would be best to rent in fact I encourage it.
I'm not sure where you live and if a such service exist in your area but by renting you won't regret your party.
I've done it a couple times myself and I took the insurance with it, drunk people sometimes may fell on the equipment or other stuff.
Imagine all the trouble if an amp that somebody lands to you get to blow or a speaker get cracked by an elbow or a knee.
An idea that just popped in my head, if you can get 3 sets of self amplified computer speakers it would prbly do the trick.
I think it's the best for you right now. No worries about beaking down an amp with improper impedance and all and all.
Send thanks to FatherTed last sentence.
