I think it's a waste of money if you already have speakers. The only time that this would make sense to have is if you don't have room for a desktop set of speakers and you still want to get sound from somewhere.

Very handy for people who have a server and just need some emergency speakers though!

Reviews say they are handy for basic use, but you really want something better for music / movies.

Too expensive for something like that. 2€ speakers are good enough for alarms.

Of course, that use makes sense. But if you're really looking for something decent, these aren't it.

What? That doesn't even make sense..

And yeah Heggs, obviously expecting anything quarter-decent would be an overshot - but still a nice peripheral that actually has its uses.

I believe it looks the same as an auto mobile lighter.

Yeah, it could even be one. Not too hard to wire up.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

You could buy an Alienware or build a system.

Those speakers don't have the juice to even make your box vibrate in the slightest.

It takes no more than a 1mm sheet of metal to enclose the magnets.

Well they look quite cool. But I really don't see a purpose.

Also, totally pointless for me seeing as I have a door in front of my drives.

You could have muffled sub par sound instead of just regular sub par sound. That extra dimension could make it wonderful.
