so he call me to inform me that he pc has been acting up strange, the symptoms are:
-running real slow, when i tried to open a program it takes longer than it supposed to.
-the real problem is this one, when i want to download a program such as cpuz, coretemp, etc, programs that directly ask you  if you want to download the program, i manage to download firefox.
i tried firefox to see that if it was IE but no, so when i open the program the folder just start blinking and goes from minimized size to full size but it just display a blank page  and it wont stop  and tried closing it from task manager, no success.
so i'm thinking i'm going to reformat his computer but it's a dell.
i have never install a new OS to a prebuild computer, is it any different?
it's a crappy PC
spec:
AMD athlon 64x2 4200 @ 2,2Ghz
1 GB or RAM
nvidia 7300se 256mb
i dont know the motherboard yet
250GB HDD
this is the PC model dimension e521

It may have come with a recovery CD, or otherwise has a locked recovery partition that has a recovery image that you burn to a disc and then boot from.

Otherwise, just install a regular OS and hope you can find drivers.

Usually Windows given drivers will do the trick, and then run updates/find drivers.  It's what I did with my Dell.

(BTW,  Dell motherboards are unique to Dell with their own BIOS...)
