Is there a piece of software or a firefox add on that lowers the brightness of the surrounding web page when watching a video on the internet, so that the video remains at full brightness and the rest of the screen is less bright and distracting.

I have seen it before cant remember where though, may have just been a feature on some website, would be good if such a thing existed.

Anyone know of anything like this?

I don't know if there's software or a Firefox addon for that, but I believe what you're talking about is a feature at hulu.com. "Lower Lights"

Actually, that would be nice if you could apply it to any video on the net somehow.

That's the desktop dimmer that's included with the DivX web player. You must've been on a website with a DivX video that had that setting enabled.

I dunno of any software that would do that though

Stage 6, Hulu and Fox.com ('Move media player') have that feature. Off the top of my head, I don't know any plugin that can do it.

I know Hulu had that, but I didn't know fox had it too.  Stage6 is gone lol.

Let me Google that for you

Apparently some few videos already have something like it,

Right under the title, hit "Lights Off"

LOL @ the vid you posted but thanks, never saw the "light off" thingy yet. Too bad most of vids don't have that option.

I find the video to be crap, even though it IS from one of the Post-Secondary schools I'm considering(If I decide to go video editing and not theater lighting)
But yeah, it's just the sample one they showed in the CNet article.

So far the theater view option appears only on a small percentage on long-form content from specific providers, meaning the three-minute clip you shot of your dog on the trampoline will not have it. Going forward I'm thinking it could only be an option on educational segments, since it temporarily hides advertisements, which could mean a drop in ad clicks.

Well the part when the Chink is shown on Chinese food box was funny to me.
