Firstly, yes, three exclamation marks apiece was required. Dunno why, but there it is.

Anyhow.

How is it that just about every story anyone here has about playing BF2 online involves someone 'hunting them' in a round? Is this some sort of collective paranoia? Or is there a new kit that nobody told me about, the 'Mind Reader' kit, who's special ability is to instinctively sense that everyone who shoots them intended the bullet specifically for them?

Granted, people complain about specific people, but specifically hunting one individual seems to me to be a bit on the tricky side. Firstly, you don't know where they are on a large map unless they go to the same place repeatedly - in which case you're not so much hunting them as 'laying in wait', which is more commonly known as 'defending a position'. Secondly, I've rarely ever noticed who the hell just killed me. This is because there are so many simultaneous kills that my particular victor has already scrolled way off the screen upwards; vanished into the abyss of the unknown for all time. The mystery of it sometimes drives me to insanity, where I spend hours of the evening quivering and wondering if it's always the same per-

Wait. No I don't. But it sure seems like some people do!

As a sniper it happens. Mentally as much as anything, you can simply tell when other people are ignoring most of the other conflicts to take you out. Or happens when you're trying to get your knife badges, cause people HATE being humiliated. I've had people specifically call out my name and search for me... it happens.

It's much more common on the smaller-player servers. You have the time to hunt someone down.

And as a sniper, I often go on the hunt for troublesome or key players. You just gotta get used to thinking like them, and learning their most common routes/tactics.

Its wierd but sometimes, even if I play on a larger map, I bump into the same player a lot of times.
If I am better than this player I can imagine that he thinks that I am after him.

I've actually had someone hunt me down before. I was on Sharqi and I got team killed twice intentionally. I started typing a messege to tell the guy that he might have the red tag bug and in the middle of typing the messege I was TK'd intentionally for a third time. He then wrote me back saying something to the effect that, "this is your day to die MindBullets." Obviously then, I knew that this was no accident or red bug glitch.  I assumed that I must have pissed him off in a previous round or game and he was looking for revenge. Needless to say, he didn't get another TK that round and I ended up with a lot of negative points. ; )

This is the only case that I've personally experienced where I knew someone was hunting me down. However, it doesn't bother me. I find it amusing, and it was fun to play his game and beat him at it.

Actually, I like to pay attention to what killed me, more than who.  It gives me insight as to what I might be facing off against when I respawn.  Killed by tank? Spawn AT or SP ops.  Killed by sniper? Spawn as a sniper or a PKM to take em out.  Killed by Helo? Get a Sniper or find a jet/helo.

Now....  as to the "who shot me".  If I notice a particular name repeatedly showing up as the delivery guy of my 15 sec time out, I make a mental note-to-self to pay it back to him.  This is usually vehicle specific.  If some guy in a chopper is harrasing me or is on a point spree, I tend to seek his demise.  Same with the jet guy or the tank guy, it's just easier to remember a name if you associate it with the same vehicle.  Call it karma.

The exception is this....  Snipers.  The sniper kit is one of my favorites and I take a bit of pride in it.  If I'm killed as a sniper, by a sniper, I go nuts.  I gotta find that guy and flank em and give him some long distance bullet love too, and then again, and again, and it gets alittle dark after that and I don't remember much.....
G-d forbid I get dropped twice consecutively by the same sniper.  I'll get a tank/plane/helo and terminate him with extreme prejudice.
Before you imagine some red-in-the-face, white knuckled, cursing like a sailor cyberfreak, understand that this is all in fun.  I may hunt you down, but if you get the better of me, I'll always laugh.....    and learn for next time.

I have no idea if I bump into people repeatedly if I stay on one server for several rounds. All that registers in my mind is "Ah. Red. Die."

I do switch kit class dependant on the situation, though, naturally. I just have no idea who's killing me, name-wise, and feel faintly amazed that people have the time to look and see! I'm usually far too busy to use much of the interface save the minimap, to be honest. It's just visual verification (because of that blasted red-blue bug) that makes me look on occasion if something doesn't look exactly right on first impression.

Also, I almost never ever play sniper online, essentially because I'm shite at it.

Go on the same 24/7 Karkand server day to day

whore Armor

see how many people switch to AT just to get you

Seriously I've been noticing this in the last week as i've revisited Karkand in armor. Most of the MEC starts out as Support, with maybe a couple AT guys. By the end of the game, I've had a half dozen guys spawning as AT and calling me out. I've had "not you again" typed on screen because I kept killing the same guy the day before. sure enough I can kill a guy 5 times in a row with armor, and he'll keep spawning back as AT just to get me. It happens.

Play...on a 24/7 Karkand server? Used to do that a while back, as I could connect quickly and stay connected to one server in particular in that category... But I don't think I'd do it by choice. Too much spawncamping is almost as bad as having a high ping when it comes to kill-death ratio. And I define too much as any at all - and Karkand just seems to BEG for it, in the eyes of some players.

I was commanding on Karkand at Suburb, beside the HJ-8 TOW thats there. Scan brought up incoming car. Jump in the tow, killed 3 in the HMMVV and one that jumped out with a nice little burst to the face.

For the rest of the round that squad kept trying to track me down. Ended up with 18-0 as commander of the winning team.

Gotta admit I like hunting down the enemy commander, especially when he's on the carrier, on Wake in particular you know he's gonna be on the carrier, usually in the well underneath. It's great fun to blow the UAV trailer and scanner and wait for the enemy commander to turn up to repair 'em and blow him up with the last C4 block or if he uses a supply drop to repair 'em you can load up with C4 and do it all over again. Plus if you kill him and he's an engineer you can grab his kit and lay mines on the runways and helipads, although I don't think I've ever managed to get an actual kill that way. Yet...

Hunting down people is a lot of fun... !
I do it mostly with sniping, especially those neat, little, cute privates fresh out of basic. Most of them have no clue where the first shot came from and they prone instantly on the spot instead of running for cover...Eeeeasy kills !

A lot of fun is hunting down enemy snipers, white knuckles and red head included if he gets me first...Grrrr...

I bang my head when I see posts like this. Those idiots that like to sit in one spot and whore armor are ridiculously easy to kill.

Spawn one flag back, as an at trooper. Even if they are deep into the fog, they will be easily as hell to spot from the constant muzzle flashes.

Aim above them so they dont get the lock on tone. If they are humping a crate, put the missile into the hull as close to the crate as possible. Splash damage should take care of the crate.

If its an apc, just dip your aim at last instant and slam it into hull. Repeat once to put apc in flames.

If its a battle tank, aim to the side then slame it into the treads on front/back. Repeat once to KILL the tank.

If you are talking about infantry spawn camping, replace at trooper with support/sniper.

A certain member of these forums is very interested in hunting me down. I just wish he would go onto the opposite team before killing me. And it would be nice if he didnt spam me with insults and random gibberish over the mic. Ah well.

He He, Do this all the time against other snipers, I think it's a sniper type thing you know......who's the best. I tend to try to wind people up by keeping score 2-1 6-2 etc, it drives some people nuts.

I guess it must be a sniper thing. Also a 'I have a connection that isn't as unstable as a nuclear reactor with ice for a radiation shield' thing, I suspect. I don't often get to play on the same server many times, since pings vary far too much. Sigh.

Yeah,as a sniper you can quickly become the most hated player on the server besides the jetwhores.
The privates are the easiest targets out there for sure, sometimes they don't know the map at all.
Killing a major or a colonel is a bit more of a challenge, they are very experienced and know every inch of the map and these are the guys who start a personal war against you after 2 or 3 kills.

Try camping on the hill next to the carrier on Dragon Valley as a Chinese sniper or as MEC sniper on the hill next to the helipad on Operation Smoke Screen and you'll have a whole bunch of enemies who declare killing you as their new goal this round in no time.

It's never personal for me. I sometimes want to clear out a sniper who had got me earlier, but wouldn't mind joining his squad the next round if we were in the same team. In fact I'd probably already have forgotten his name by then.
