I've been using a Dell Inspiron E1505 Laptop for 2 years and I'd like to be able to play more games, use Fraps, do some video editing, etc. At the moment I can only do BF2 on medium/low at ~40fps and Fraps isn't even a question, so I'd like to build a desktop.

I have a pretty tight budget and I'd like to keep it around $800 including a monitor. I've got a case so far, so that's not included in that price. I'd like to be able to play L4D and WaW and be able to run Fraps and BF2 with a reasonable fps (~50?).

Other than that it doesn't really matter, a decent sized hard drive and a video card that can handle the above stuff.

I never thought ram would be so cheap...I don't have a problem back ordering.

I don't know much about PSU's, but 500w is enough?

Yeah, but if you go SLi you should upgrade to a 600W. You wanted a monitor also? Look for Samsung...

Not really. All about the brand (quality) and the amps. HD4870X2 runs off Corsair HX520 without problems, even I run 8800GT sli on a 500W not-so-name-brand PSU, it just has awesome amps. Don't underestimate the capabilities of good PSU's.

500W quality PSU is enough for most builds of today.

Yeah I'm definitely looking forward to it, the main thing being able to record 2v2 Chopper scrims as a gunner without getting raped by 15 fps.

I got it in person, it's a solid case.

I need fans still, getting dual 120mm with Blue LEDs and then a Thermaltake CPU cooler. Should be sufficient, no?

Not sure what you're refferring to by opticals, but I'm guessing I don't have them.

Yeah I had that feeling, but no I'm looking at an HP one and a Sony one, both at around $30.
