I get this box that says that the Nv4 disp. driver doesnt work anymore and to restart...

After that Microsoft gives you options, but of course none of them work.

I have updated my drivers 3 times now. that means uninstalling then installing the latest drivers in safe mode.
I have left my computer off for one week to see if it just goes away. it doesnt.
Ive read and a clean install of windows doesnt do the trick either.

Its either my videocard or motherboard... I think. I have taken my video card out and cleaned it up, then put it back in with no results. My brother has the same computer, but this error hasnt bugged him. He got it for like a week, he turned off AA on all games for a week and it went away. Doing that doesnt do shit for me.

Anything else I can do? or do I have to take this to geek squad to see if they can repair it because ive tried all ive can... EXCEPT one thing.

My video card has a 6 pin connector for power, my computer has two 4 pin connectors, but one of them can't reach the video card, so would buying an extension for this solve the problem? My brother's computer is set up the same exact way.

If so, where can I buy an extension for one?

If not, anymore ideas to fixing this problem?

Computer specs:

Pentium D 3.4 Ghz (dual core)
2.5GB RAM
8800 GTS 320mb

Windows XP 32bit.

If you need anymore info I can provide it.

I was having to reinstall and I was just running into this shit a few hours ago. I finally uninstalled video drivers in safe mode and re-downloaded newest video drivers, I had tried that before but somehow it worked that last time.

Make sure that you UNINSTALL the previous versions, because over-writing\reinstalling with an older driver set can cause problems.

They don't expect you to install and older version that way.

Ive done everything in this thread with no success.

I uninstalled every time i updated drivers, i restarted and I ran driversweeper, then I tried 175, with no luck, then i repeated but tried the latest, again no luck.

What else? Am I fucked?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6812189062 will this work as an extension for my 4 pin cable?

It might fix the problem.

Specs.

And why would that cable fix it?
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

I put it down....

Its on the thread

the power for my gpu is 6 pin, but i can only reach 1 4 pin in there (there's 2) but the other other doesnt reach, which means half the power is going to the gpu (which is causing the problems?)

nothing else is working.

also, i don't crash on non-valve games for some reason....? (like GTA IV)

Man if it needs 6 pins then it has to have 6 pins. Either buy an extension cable or mod your current cables to fit. And dont forget to isolate them if you will start modifying cables.

I started getting NV4_Disp BSOD's the other day.

I uninstalled drivers, cleaned them and then installed an earlier load of drivers and all works well now.

BF2 was the game that kept crashing my PC.

I had this, it was because I installed the Performance & System Monitor from nVidia, I fucked with the clocks (used the optimize setting), it overclocked my GPU, but when I rebooted I got the nVidia colors flashing on my monitor, and then it'd go back to the Win XP desktop.  I'd also have the PC lock up, and BSOD with the error.

I uninstalled what I downloaded, restored card to factory settings, reinstalled drivers and now it's completely fine. No more monitor spasms.

lol Glad it turned out okay in the end. Be careful of the monitor spasms though, they can damage your monitor and in some cases even kill some pixels.                   .
