I was planning on buying a 4850 in my next upgrade but with the 4870 512MB's being $190 i figure it is a good investment.

XP 32
E6550 @ 2.62
RAIDMAX AURORA 2 RX-600F 600W
Western Digital Caviar SE WD1600AAJS 160GB
WD 500 GB
EVGA nForce 650i Ultra ATX Intel Motherboard
Patriot Extreme Performance 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800
COOLER MASTER Elite Black SECC ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
EVGA 8600GT 256MB
SAMSUNG 20X DVD±R DVD Burner

That is my current PSU and I was wondering if that would be safe for the 4870

I'm also worried about if it will fit in my case, that 4870 is a fat motherfucker

EDIT: For touchy Freezer

As long as you dont have something else in the slot below your GPU, the width you wont have to worry about. I would worry about length though

As for the PSU, I dont think it would work too well for a 4870, but wait for a PSU expert

It should be fine.  How much space is there between your current graphics card and the front drives?

I guess the size isn't that big of an issue but I dunno about the PSU

If you have a mid tower case it should be fine.

Idunno, I wouldn't go for a card with 0.0005bits of RAM...
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

PSU is fine, im currently running a 4850 quite easily with a 500w.  Now if you were doing Crossfire, might be a different situation.  As for the size, the length can be a problem, I had to shift all but one hardrive(of 3) out of my hardrive cage up into the two floppy drive slots I had for it to fit, make sure you can shift some stuff around if you have to.

You have 38 Amps on the +12v's.
You should be fine.

I run a 9800GT on a 600W, but the PSU was an impulse buy, thinking I might do SLi later.

Most cards run fine on 450 or above Watts.

$190?!

England is starting to piss me off. I'm sure they're about £190 here.

Still, when I upgrade next month I'll be going for the 1GB version... £30-£40 more.
