Take it back honeybun and make them switch the PSU, it sounds sooooo much like a PSU problem ...

This is why you build it yourself tbh ...

Take it back to the shop, I say. But run memtest overnight before you do - if it turns out to be the RAM, you'll get the rig back just that much faster when you bring your own diagnosis with you.
I need around tree fiddy.

how the hell can it be the PSU

would this rig eat soooooooooo much more then this one:

Q6600
4GB RAM
8800GTX
2 HD
etc
etc

or if it's faulty wouldn't the crashes be more, never starting etc, crashing completly.

1 time it runs for some time
other time it crashes on load up
etc

which has the identical PSU for 1 year now and never had a single problem nor crash,

I called them an according to them with the symptoms I described it's faulty RAM.

Ill say that they have to check it 100% anyway.

Both RAM and PSU can cause very funky problems. Plus, every PSU is unique, one might work, one not. Even a moving of the case can kill off a cheap PSU.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Its the MOBO itself or the RAM is not compatiable with that MOBO or you have a bad stick of RAM

take out all the RAM except one or two sticks

I would put money on the MOBO being faulty

seems to have been some problems concerning the Corsair ram with the Mobo and i7 processor (according to them).

they've put OCZ Platinum ram in it now and they ran it for 2,5 hours without problems so...

well I will see tonight if they really fixed it.

seems to me they didn't take the time, it even says on the repair note "PC restarts when operating Vista" yet I think they only tested that it boots correctly or something, well the old rig did that too... they should have fucking noticed that....

arghhh

p.s. I don't care if they put a 500euro 1200w PSU in there (off of their bankaccount) i am not going to pay a bloody cent more for this stupid rig.

Zalman doesn't have that good PSUs tbh. They are like Coolermaster PSU. Not the very top quality though I wouldn't say cheap

it runs great on my other rig (which my brother has now)

Q6600
8800GTX
2 HDD
Gigabyte P35 DS4
4GB RAM

for one year now.

or this PSU unit has gone fubar like you said, or Vista is seriously fucked up (installed wise) or the mobo is fucked.

I heard that damaged ram slot/slots are causing most of the issues with core i7 setups. looks like the added number of slots has made quality testing more difficult...

and please check from BIOS that the RAM gets exactly 1.65V.

why not steal the PSU from your brothers PC and put it in yours to check?

Absolutely not an identical one that has been running fine for a year
