Every 6 hours ish a loud clanging sound comes from my speakers, it sounds like someone hitting two empty juice cans together. But a lot lot louder. If I have my speakers up loud from music etc it almost gives me a heart attack. It must be some program or something, it has happened when I have no webpages open at all either.

Logitech Z-5500

Not every 6 hours, sometimes not for a few days. I haven't heard it in a couple weeks. Then I come back from my weekend and hear it twice in 2 hours.

Nope no texts or calls.

try putting your cell phone beside your speakers and calling it. Do you get a similar sound?

yeah i was thinking it might be that too.  but i guess not.  it doesn't sound like "SSSST SSSSSSST SSSSSSSST", does it?  my speakers make that sound when my cell phone is receiving or sending data.

I hate that, listening to music in bed and the closer your phone is to the speakers the more deafening the static is

What if you put the subwoofer away from all the metal stuff an magnets, in the middle of the room for instance. Have you tried that?

It's not my phone, I know the sound you mean. It's like someone getting a pan and smacking it once with a hammer. A single loud clanging noise. It's like when you squeeze a can or bottle, and when it expands it pops.

Go into your sound and audio properties (Start>Control Panel>Sounds.....for XP, there should be something similar for vista). Look on the sounds tab (between volume and audio). Go through the list and highlight each item with a little picture of a speaker, and click the little play button at the bottom. Are any of these sounds the sound in question? (My guess in "Default Beep" from your description)

Hmm it isn't "Default beep" it's literally the sound of a hammer hitting a can. It's no way a windows sound. I am actually starting to wonder if it's any of the cans on top of my desk expanding.

(Xfire not installed btw)
