I'm going to be ultra anal and request a source because nothing like that was forced on my parents. Though I do live in the AU and not the USA.

I grew up a few kilometres down the road from RAAF Tindal, one of the larger RAAF bases and probably one of the most active military sites in Australia. That said, they built the base after Dad bought the property so maybe that has something to do with it.
