RIP to any who died but I really can see people suing over this.
Military's not that stupid. If you live within a certain proximity to an airport, you are required to sign documents disallowing this.
I'm going to be ultra anal and request a source because nothing like that was forced on my parents. Though I do live in the AU and not the USA.

I grew up a few kilometres down the road from RAAF Tindal, one of the larger RAAF bases and probably one of the most active military sites in Australia. That said, they built the base after Dad bought the property so maybe that has something to do with it.
If you live in the safety zone (or is it clear zone?  I don't remember the term), then you probably have to agree to this.  (i.e. if you live within 1-2km directly off the end of the runway, where something like 80% of crashes occur).

Reports are that he flew about 100 miles on one engine.  I don't know why the Military wouldn't have him return to the aircraft carrier.  I mean if something does go wrong he would be over water.  I think the fact that he was flying a defective aircraft for that long makes for a nice lawsuit in the making.

This happened about 4 miles from where I work.  It was crazy around here yesterday.

Side note:  This pilot needs to brush up on his eject-o-ramming.  There is a canyon right there, I mean it wouldn't have been that hard to set the nose on a course with the canyon (or so I would think anyway, I don't have any first hand knowledge here) and then eject.

I read that they did aim for the canyon (aka ejecto ramming into the cannon)  but for some reason it failed quite badly. Personally, should've just aimed it at the sea on first hint of something going wrong. Hindsight is 20/20 and I am sure as hell not a pilot so I don't know what I'm chatting about tbfh

3 or 4 dead from what I read, also, a child included in that. Pilot/People involved will have to live with that forever

I just to a guy that works at MCAS Miramar for the F18 Flight Simulator.  He said one engine failing is a quite common occurance, so the pilot didn't break any protocol by proceeding for the base.  The worker said that once the second engine goes it is like trying to steer a rock.

Yeah, I couldn't imagine going to work and getting the call that a jet crashed into my house killing my wife, 2 kids, and mom.

This reminded me of PSA Flight 182, which collided with a Cessna right by Lindbergh (the main San Diego airport) Field.  September 25, 2008, I was only three but I remember that.
