I was driving home the other day, at 4pm (dark, winter in Aberdeen is gloomy), rush hour traffic...busy 2 lane roundabout with a safety barrier.
8 or so school kids (~14) walking INSIDE the roundabout. Idiots...!
I also got smashed off my bike recently by a driver who cut me up, ie he was coming the other side and turned right, into my path...luckily I wasn't badly hurt, ~30-40 combined speed, took a big chunk out of his car though!
There are some real twats around on the roads unfortunately...as has been said here, we don't know the full facts, but as FM said, when driving you should be extra damn careful near pedestrian crossings of any sort.

Damn that sucks for the girls family.
How ever, I believe very little blame should be placed on the driver. Some blame is required, but nothing like a jail sentence. Some type of fine plus another type of punishment, like a bs driving class.
Looking at that crossing, there's not much the driver could have done to avoid her. He most likely surprised at her moving into the street, and probably tried to stop. Too bad it takes 40 feet to stop from that speed.
She, was probably too concerned with Molly Cyrus' pumping but yet inspirational lyrics to look before crossing the street. Yes, it is her fault as well. Too bad her punishment is death.

If she was deaf I'd still say she wasn't paying enough attention, Listening to an mp3 player she probably was as good as deaf. Now if she were blind then that's a little different. Yes, the girl fucked up, but the driver should have been a little more on his toes. The law gives the RoW to the girl.
What if the girl was deaf? Then I bet all of you assholes who are blaming the girl would have different views.
She should have looked both ways, even thought it was a type of junction.
He should have not been speeding.
They were both in the wrong and unfortunately the outcome was tragic.
I don't think a long jail sentence would be a good decision still.
