EDIT: oh and i recently installed vista with 4Gb of RAM with no issues at all..... but doesnt mean its not the problem for him i guess.

OK, I don't have a lot of experience with Vista, but my experience of it has been uniformly bad.
Mainly relates to user account problems and just general slowness.

Didn't appreciate MS Office being 'updated' either TBH.
Teaching the Aged Ps a whole new OS and software bundle is something I could really do without right now.

Yeah you gotta hate Microsoft... updating and improving their products... pfff.  Office 07 tanks the old MS Office suite. 

I also installed Vista x64 with 4GB of RAM and no problems here.  After successfully installing Vista on several systems and running into no problems after install, I have a feeling that the problem lies between the keyboard and chair for all Vista haters.  Or else I'm just lucky.
